HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-12/03/1955 "75 II 17m S�.O ' TO.1V T JSTRI.- TR SUPERVISORIS OFFICE GREENP(M NEW YORK A special meeting of the Board of Town Trustees was called to order at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 1955 at the office of Superviscr Klipp, Greenport, New York. Norman E. Klipp, Supervisor, presided at hhe meeting of the Trustees and the Baymen's Protective Association. The follow- . ing were present: Emmons Dean John McNulty Alvah B. Goldsmith Supervisor Norman E. Klipp Town Counsel Terry Justice Louis Demarest .Frank Dawson About 15 Baymen The meeting was called to discuss the taking of escallops in Town waters. Mr. KlippDWarned that the action proposed would not be legally in effect without changing or amending the existing Town Ordinance and would also be dependent on a favorable ruling by the Conservation Department. Mr. Klipp explained the proper procedure to the Baymen present for requests for any 2pedial action that was con- templated in the future. In view of the urgency he agreed to consider the resolution the Baymen had presented. It was reported that at least 100 bushels of escallops had already wa'hed ashore and that every storm would bring more and more destruction. The Trustees held a closed meeting to discuss the proposal and reconvened to discuss the proposal further with the Baymen. It was authoritatively stated that the areas opened up last year did not suffer but benefitted form the taking of the bins. The following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, It is apparent that scallops in the two areas here- inafter mentioned would probably die during unusually stormy weather by being blown ashore or being covered with silt, and WHEREAS, it is apparent that many people could derive a living from the taking of these scallops, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED: That scallops of any size may be taken from the two hereinafter mentioned areas in any amount not to exceed five (5) bushels per person per day by hand, with scalp net or, by sail power from December 5, 1955, to March 31, 1956, both dates inclusive, and be it durther RESOLVED: That persons taking scallops from these areas in the amount of 5 bushels per person per day must have in their possession a State of New York Conservation Department Digger's Permit, and be it further 76 RESOLVED: That scallops taken from these areas in the manner and amount, as heretofore described may be taken for commercial purposes only and for 5 days per week only, from Monday to Friday, both days inclusive, and be it further RESOLVED: That nothing contained in this resolution shall prevent any person who is a resident or taxpayer of the Town of Southold from taking an amount not in excess of 1/2 bushel per person in any one calendar day. (1) In that area commonly known as Mill Creek at Arshamomaque New York, from the New York State Route 25 Bridge, north.
