A letter dated January 24, 1959 was. received from the Fishers Island Civic Association, Francis T. Doyen, President, stating that at their last Quarterly meeting the Association felt that a public controlled beach and playground facilities for children would be very beneficial to the community. The Association feels that the Planning Board should look into the matter and advise if the Association can receive any assistance from the Town of Southold. After considerable thought and discussion on this subject a motion was made by Mr. Moisa, seconded by Mr. Young and unani- mously carried whereby it was RESOLVED, that the Planning Board make the following recommendation to the Town Board: The Planning Board feels, on the basis of this letter from the Fishers IslandCivic Association, the Town Board should make every effort to make available public facilities on Fishers Island, not only the South Beach area but also any other interior area on the Island which might be available, such as the tennis courts. In view of the fact many of our communities have park districts we would like to suggest that the possibility of a park operating district be explored with title of the lands resting in the Town of Southold, but operation the responsibility of the formed park district. Copy of the above recommendation was forwarded to the Fishers Island Civic Association, c/o Francis T. Doyen, along with acknowledgement of their letter of January 24th.
