November 7, 1958
A special meeting of the Southold Town Planning Board was held on November 7,
1958 at 7:30 P.K. in the Tovm Clerk's Office, Southold, New. York.
Present at this meeting were Iir. John TIickham, Chairman, Harold'$`. Reeve,
Henry F. Yoisa� Archibald N. Young and Alfred Grebe.
Also present were 1.!i_r. Howard Ir. Terrl,T, Building Tnspector and Otto W. Van Tuyl.
An application was received from David I. DeFriest for a change of zone
from "Alt Residential and Agricultural District to "B" •Business District certain real
property located and bounded as follows: Situated on the N rth Side of 4ain Road
and bounded on the South by ja.in Road, Fast by Edward F. Jer 1'
ome, North by W. V. Duryea
and on the West by I` ckham Avenue and Dr. ,Stanley P. Jones. TKr. DeFriest desires this
change in order that he may cop-duct a funeral parlor. It eras the determination of the
Planning B oard to:
Rs1SOLVEi, That this Board recommend to the Town Board that this application
be granted but the lands of Dr. Jones and John E. Woessner be included in this
"B" District. A_ legal description of this entire property is to be submitted before
the next meeting of the Town Board.
The Town Clerk enclosed with Tais letter a Proposed Amendment to be 1000B of the
Building Zone Ordinance. The Planning Board considered this amendment and it
was their determination to:
RESOLVE, That it be recommended to the Town Board for approval.
The application of Tfilliam Sorenson has been withdrawn, the fee has been
returned and the application is now closed.

PLANNING BOARD A notice was received from the Southold Town Board that the application

'Henry Moisa The Chair man requested that a letter be written to 0. Valentine
Alfred Grebe Ruch IV regarding his recent petition for the UP Altiple Residence
District. The Board is holding this application until it has an
Archibald Young opportunity to talking with him and going over the property.
A Preliminary Plan was received from Mr. Robert Preston, but
because the members were not satisfied with it, they decided that
a letter should be written to Itll. . Preston, stating that we are not willing
to recommend the plan as it appears now and that it be sent to .the Board
of Appeals.
After mucti discussion on the petition of Nnold Sacks the Board
decided that the property should run South to the Depth of the Long
Island Lighting Company 2.semeA on the amended map submitted.
Q. Reeve did not vote on the above) It 1,�raa the determination of
the Planning Board to:
RESOLVE, That this Board recommend to the Town Board approval of the
above and that the Papish property be included in the #Bu Business.
District on its own motion.
The Chairman bought up the subject of why hasn't anything been done
on parks and recreation areas, which for so long has been a -topic of
discussion. The members seemed to be quite interested in this and
decided that the Planning Board:
RESOLSZ, To recommend to the Town Board that every means be taken to
expidite the formation of park districts and recreational areas in
our Town. Ye feel that these are of great importance.
The Planning• Board has set out theifrst meeting in the" month of
January to discuss other than zoning affairs.
The next meeting; of the Southold Town Planning Board will be held on
December 16, 1958 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Clerk's. Office, Southold,
New York.
