SOUTHOLD TOWN PLANNING' BOARD
January 10, 1967
A regular meeting of`the Southold Town Planning Board
was held at 7:30 P.M ,, Tuesday, January 10t 1967, at the
Town Office, Main Road* Southold,, New York.
There were present:., Messrs: John•Wickham, Chairman;
Henry Moisa, Alfred Grebe,- William Unkelbach.
Also present: Otto Van Tuyl, Consultant; Howard Terry,
Building Inspector.
Howard terry reported that the County--Water' Survey was going
to make two test-wells in the Town of Southold. One test well
will be at the North Road at the head of Bowery'Lane* Southold. t.
the second test well will be located at Alvah°s Laney Cutchouge.
Both test wells will .be 400 feet deep. Howard Terry
also reported that the Village of Greenport has requested first
option on a water franchise for the Town of Southold.
A letter was received from Southampton Township Preservation
Society, Inc. *, Enclosed with said letter were the following
reports: l) report on the Underground Water'Resources of
Southampton Town by'Dr. A. Nelson Sayre*. formerly Chief of
Underground Water Branch, U.S. Geological- Survey; 2) Sanitary
Engineering Survey of the Town of Southampton by•John P. Mahoney,
Sanitary Engineer, formerly with the Suffolk County Health Department.
These were forwareded to .Ernest- Whitlock for his study.

A letter was received from Mr. Lee Koppleman,, inviting
Mr. John Wickham, to attend the seminar of Oceangraphic' Committee
to be held at ,Hauppauge County- Center, on January 25t 196.7. A
• letter was smEsmn sent to Mr. Lee Koppleman advising him that
Mr.. Wickham will be out of Town on thedate of the meeting,
however, a representative of the Southold Town Planning Board
will be present.
The Chairman reported that George Bird was going to make an
application' to the Town Trustees for dredging a canal. The
dredging will be done between the present canal and an old
natural gutter. The Board felt this could be recommended to
the Town Trustees if it was for not more than. 300 feet and
not. mpre than six feet deep and under no circumstances go six
into sand.
The Chairman also reported that- Russell Case will be making
an application bo the Town Trustees to scoop .up some of the bog
and double it up to improve the golf course, located in Cutchogue.
The Board felt this could also be recommended to the Town Trustees,
however, it should not be any more than three feet deep.- and
under no circumstan ces dig into sand.
On motion by Mr. Moisa, seconded by Mr. Grebe,. it was
RESOLVED that the minutes of the• Southold Town Planning
Board dated November 15, 196+6r be approved as submitted.
Vote of the Board: Ayes:-'ALL
On motion by'Mr. Grebe, seconded by Mr. Unkelbach, it was
RESOLVED that the minutes of the Southold Town Planning Board
dated December 13, 1966, be approved as submitted.
Vote of the Board: Ayes:- ALL
Otto Van Tuyl reported that the development by Henty 'Smith,
to be entitled -South Harbor Homes shall be cba nged' to Laughing
Water4 Section II. It was also reported that- the County Board
of Health will not accept wells in the:ohighway. The Chairman
felt- that Henry`Smith had three alternatives as follows: 1)' Village
water; 2) put in private water system; 3) cut -j&wi§x dwon waterfront
lots and have place for wells.
On motion,by Mr.- Wickham, seconded by Mr. Moisa,, it was

RESOLVED that the minutes of the Southold Town Planning
Board dated December 20,, 1966, .be approved as submitted.
Vote of the Board: Ayes:-'ALL
Mr. Howard Terry reported that Southold Town plans to install
a life guard: floats, and have a public swimming area at Laurel
Lake,, Laurel, NY. i
The Board discussed the progress of work- on- Cleaves Point
Section 111, There was a report `that- the fresh water was running
off into the salt-.water. ' The Board agreed to have Mr.. Lawrence
Tuthill, P.E.- check this out.
The next regular meeting of the Southold Town' Planning Board
will be held at 7:30 P.M,, Monday, February 13, 1967, at the Town
Office, Main Road, Southold, New York.
The meeting was adj ourned, at .9: 00 P.M.
