Board of Trustees y
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Goose Neck Property Owners Association is the owner of two properties facing the
privately owned canal alongside Smith Drive South. These properties have, since the
formation of our community, been used for the docking of boats on floating docks. Over the
years these have been maintained and repaired by our Association. At this point however,
we would like to replace these 4-5 floating docks and walkways with a new docking system
that is both safe and functional as well as in accordance with any regulations governing
their use. Currently these floating docks can accommodate approximately 8 boats at the
two locations. '
We would like to have your advice and counsel as to how best to accomplish our goals.
We understand that the Board of Trustees would be willing to meet with us on-site upon the
payment of the $50 fee which is enclosed.
We would also like to discuss the condition of the westernmost marina parcel which is
located within a few feet of the edge of Smith Drive South. About 30 some years ago, the
Town of Southold placed a number of concrete slabs, left over from a road construction
project (I believe the Old North Road) along the shore at the terminus of the canal in order
to maintain the shoreline. The Town of Southold also placed two drains alongside the road
to aid in road drainage and these flow directly into the creek. It is our belief that these
drains, in addition to contributing to the possible pollution of the creek, also cause sand to
flow from the road side into the creek and contribute to the erosion of the shoreline. The
present situation is that the concrete slabs have slipped further into the creek and the
buildup of sand has made ,ry difficult to bring boats close in I e border and thus
requiring longer and longer ..: Ikways to the floating docks.
We would like to request that the Town of Southold assist us in removing and re-piling the
concrete slabs along the shore and removing some of the sand that has leached into the
creek, partly due to the Town supplied drainage conduits. Our Association recognizes that
the Town, like everyone else is experiencing financial stresses and this might not be
possible to do this year. Therefore, we would like to discuss how the Town and/or the
Board of Trustees may either apply for the proper permits on our behalf or assist us in
applying so that we can have this maintenance done at our expense.
Thank you for your consideration and early reply. I can be reached at the above address or
email or on my cell phone at 516-521-4023.
Very truly yours
John J. Carway
President
