Box 1179 Southold NY 11971 Dear Ms Doherty: Re: Town code 274-4, Section A,paragraph 9,burial of a propane tank within 100 feet of wetlands I would like you to confirm that I do not need a Town of Southold permit for installing a 500 gallon propane tank for my home. We want to add a built-in electric generator to make sure we have electricity during future storms. Attached is a statement from C. F. Van Duzer Gas Service Inc. that the only suitable location for a buried tank is behind the house. The tank will be in the area more than 50 feet from the canal,but less than 100 feet. I have attached a copy of our lot layout. Currently we have a 50 gallon tank above ground behind our house(also within the 100 feet line) for cooking,but it would be much safer if we buried a 500 gallon tank: The installation would be done in accordance with all other Town and State requirements.
