.The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E.
Klipp, at Greenport on Tuesday August 24, 1948. The meeting was
called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor. j
Klipp; Justices Terry, Albertson and Clark; Town Supt. of Highways
Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
The minutes of the previous meetings were read and duly approved
as read.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Terry:
Resolved: That the Supervisor be emp&veered to prepare the bids
to purchase 700 feet of nine guage chain link wire fence to be
placed on the east and south side of the Southold Town Dump at Cutchogue.
Unanimously adopted.
A petition was read from residents of the hamlet of Orient petitioning
the Town of Southold and the -State of New York to establish a speed "
limit from the residence of Edward Miller to Orient Roint.
Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Albertson: ^ "
Resolved: That the Town Board- does hereby authorize the Supervisor
to request the State Highway Dept. of the State of New York to install
speed limit signs reading 25 mi per hr. -on -the State H;ghway, route y "
�5, from the residence of Edward Miller past the intersection at the
monument and schoolhouse, to Holyoke Lane, and speed limit signs to
read 35 mi per hr. from Holyoke Lane to Orient Point, Town of Southold,
Suffolk County, New York.
Unanimously adopted.

Moved by Justice. Terry; seconded by Justice Clark:
Resolved: . That Frank S. Dawson be and hereby is appointed, subject
to the written approval of the District Supt„ of Schools, Attendance � -
Officer°of all schools throughout the own, except such schools as >
are otherwise provided for by Sec. 3213 of the Education Law, and-
Be It Further Resolved: That such attendance officer shall be
removable at the pleasure of the District Supt. of Schools and
Be It Further Resolved: That the compensation for such Attendance
Officer be fixed at $800.00 per year, payable in regular monthly
installments, he to pay his own travel expense and
Be It Further Resolved: That the Town Clerk be and hereby is in-
structed to notify Frank- S. Dawson and the District Supt. of
Schools of the appointment and y-
Be It Further Resolved: That this appointment is made retfoactive to
August 1, 1948.
Unanimously adopted.
Mr. McKnight of New Suffolk appeared before the Board complaining about
the dead fish on the beach at New Suffolk. The Supervisor advised
him that the Town Board could do nothing about the situation, and
referred him to the Suffolk County Board of Health at Riverhead.
A communication was read from the Long Island Lighting Co. suggest®
in they install a 400 c.p. spot light in the parking field at
Ma tituck, in place of the 100 c.p. lights which the Park Com-
missioners had suggested. The Town Board instructed the Town Clerk `
to communicate with the Park Commissioners and get their approval
in writing before the L.I. Lighting Co. installs the lights.
The Bold of Theodore B. Howard was presented to the Town Board for app
proval.
Moved by, Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson:
Resolved: That Bond No . 181642 of the Travelers Indemnity Co , for
$500. for Theodore B. Howard as Constable and Patrolman be and the
same is hereby approved as to form and sufficiency of surety.
Unanimously adopted.
It was unanimously agreed that the Town Board make its official visit to
Fishers Island on Wed. 9 Sept. 1, 19489 leaving Preston' s dock at 9 A .M. .
