HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-08/23/1949-FI y . Meeting of August 23 , 1949 �- The Annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Tuesday, August 23 , ' 1949. The Board left Preston' s Dock at 9 A.M. aboard Capt. Harry Horton' s Boat, accompanied by Senator S.W. Horton; assemblyman Edmund Lupton; County Supt. of Highways H.T . Tuthill; Dist. Supe. of Schools Harry B. Ward; George G. Tuthill; Meade Dobson; Lee Dennison; Otis Burt and Fred Boergesson. Arrived at Fishers Island at about 11:15 A.M. The meeting was held in the auditorium of the �Fishers Island School, and was called to order by Supervisor Klipp at 1:15 P.N. with the following members ofthe Board present; Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Shanklin, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark; Town Supt . of High-- ways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. 1 Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Terry: f� Resolved: hat the reading of the minut.es of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Unanimously adopted. Supervisor Klipp opened the meeting with brief remarks and stated the meeting was opened for discussions. Mrs. Hedge stated that something should be done in regard .to the , � = parking on booth sides of the street in the vicinity of .the stores 1 on Montauk Ave. Supt . Price stated he would supply no Parking signs. Justice Shanklin agreed to have them erected on the street in question. The people of Fishers Island were much concerned above a report that they would be' without a ferry when the army terminated at Fort Wright on Oct. lst. They were assured by Supervisor Klipp, Senator Horton and A.J. Gada, a commissioner of the Ferry District that they would have a ferry. The people were also concerned about having no physician on the Island now that Fort Wright was closing. Supervisor Klipp stated that he would take the matter up with Dr. Rafle, Suffolk County Health Commissioner. { Mr. Gada stated that the Commissioner of the Ferry District would + like the Ferry District to operate as a regular Special District along the lines of a Fire District. Senator Horton stated he did not think that Dept . of Audit and Control would consider a change in the &"e;an , but would do , -what he could to have it amended. Mr: Gada brought up the question that Suffolk County aquire the navigation Dock at Fort Wright, County Supt. of Highways H.T. Tuthill suggested that Mr. Gada get all the fact9and figures on +1 the dock- and present them to him and he would present them to the County Board of Supervisors for their consideration. After the Peninsula Road was discussed the following resolution was adopted: Moved by Supt. of Highways Price; seconded by Justice Clark: Resolved: That as soon as the required signatures are secured and the necessary papers are properly filled out and presented to the ` Town Board, and •if approved, Peninsula Road will be taken over and . r maintained as a public highway. Unanimously adopted. It was agreed to hold the regular monthly audit meeting of this + Board at the office of Supervisor at Green port on Wed. Septa 7, 1949, at 1:30 P.M. Adjournment was at 4:45 P.M.
