HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-07/05/1949 Meeting of July 5, 1949 �- The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport' on Tuesday, July 5, 1949. The meeting was called .. j to order at 1:30 P.M. with' the following present:: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark; Town Attorney" Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a committee on audit to examine claims against the Town, concluding the audit work at 2:30 P.M. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved a-:.s read. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board be held ,. at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport, on Tuesday. , July 19f 1949, at 1:30 P.M. Unanimously adopted. _ . . Moved- by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill: Resolved: That General Bills -in the amountof $734. 51; Lighting District Bills in the amount of $15042.94; Non-reimbursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $72.63 and Fishers Island Ferry District Acct.#2 Bills in the amount of �049.65 be and the same are hereby ordered } - paid. Unanimously adopted. Moved' by Justice .Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: Resolved: That Frank S. Dawson of New Suffolk, be and hereby is appointed, subject - to the written approval of the District Superin- tendent -of Schools, Attendance Officer of all schools through6ut e Town, except such -schools as are otherwise provided for by Section 3213 of the Education Law, and Be -It Further Resolved: That such Attendance Officer shall be remov- able at the pleasure of the District Supt. of Schools, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the compensation for such Attendance t Officer be fixed at $800. per year, payable in regular monthly installments, he to day his own expense. BE IT' FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and hereby is instructed to notify Frank S . Dawson and the District Supt. of Schoold of this appointment. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Terry: K r WHEREAS, ' Section 145 of the Highway Law permits the Town Bond of a Town to contract for and purchase in the name of the Town a gravel bed or''other 'material for use on the public highways and bridges of the Town at a total cost not to exceed one thbusand dollars, and F WHEREAS, by-opinion of the State Comptroller the cost thereof is - a general town charge and no referendum is necessary, and _ WHEREAS ' -Harold Price, the Superintendent of Highways of the Town of Southold ' has recommended to the Town Board the Purchase from Julius Zebroski of three acres of land for a gravel .� bed, at 'a price of $300. per acre; said land being situated on the - r �= southerly side of sound View Road, near Southold, and WHEREAS, after due deliberation, such purchase is deemed to be in the best interests of the Town of Southold, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Supervisor of the Town of •yr Southold be and he hereby is authorized and directed to contract for 1 and purchase from Julius Zebroski for the sum of $900. acres of land south of Sound r use as a three View Avenue fo Unanimously adopted. gravel bed. 211' Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Albertson; on roll call the following proposition was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, the provisions of Section 220 of the Town Law provide that upon the adoption of a proposition therefore, at a Town election, in a Town of the second class, the Town Board may, among other things , purchase a town hall or any other necessary building for town pur- poses and acquire the necessary lands therefor, and WHEREAS, the provisions of Section 81 of the Town Law provide that the _ town board may upon its own motion cause to be submitted at a biennial town election a proposition, to, among other things, purchase a town hall or any other necessary building for town purposes , and acquire necessary lands therefor, and WHEREAS, the LAWLOU CORPORATION has made an offer to sell to the Town of Southold, for the sum of $17,000.00, the premises now occupied �., by the Town Clerk' s office under lease, and, WHEREAS, after due deliberation, it is the opinion of the Town Board of the Town of Southold that such purchase is in the best interests ; > of the said Town of Southold, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Supervisor of the Town of Southold be authorized and directed and he hereby is authorized and directed to enter into a contract for the purchase of said premises subject to approval of a proposition to be submitted at..the biennial town election, and to pay a deposit of not over ten per cent of the purchase price , which sum is to be returned in the event t-at said proposition is disapproved by the voters at said election, and ` BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the supervisor of the Town of Southold be authorized and directed and he hereby is authorized and directed . to submit the following proposition at the biennial election 'on November 8; 1949, and provide for the necessary notice therefor: .SHALL the Town of Southold purchase for use as a Town Hall, for the sum of $17,000.00, the following described premises (now used by the Town of Southold as the Town Clerk's Office) : "ALL that certain plot, piece or parcel of land, together with the buildings and improvements thereon, situate, lying and being at Southold, in the Town of Southold, County of Suffolk and State of New York, being more particularly bounded and described as follows: - BEGINNING at a monument set at the corner formed by the inter- section of the southerly side of Main Street with the easterly side of Young' s Avenue; running thence from said point of beginning -along the southerly side of .Main Street, North 73 degrees 23 minutes 30 t,seconds East, 186.70 feet to another monument and land of Sara C. Faulkner; thence running by said last mentioned lamed—by--and with a fence , South 10 degrees 24 minutes east, 178.43 feet to a post and land now or formerly of Downs' Estate; thence by said last mentioned land, -� South 71 degrees 36 minutes West, 80 feet to a pipe; thence still by said last mentioned land, South 74 degrees 32 minutes West, 110.30 feet to a pipe set in the easterly line of Young's Avenue; thence . > along the easterly line of Young's Avenue, North 9 degrees 17 minutes T , West, 179.15 feet to the monument set at the point or place of beginning. TOGETHER with all the right, title and interest, if any, of the , seller, of, in, and to the land lying in the streets or highways in ,front of or adjoining said above described premises to the center line thereof. And BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that provision for said sum of $17,000.00 be included in the 19 9- 0 budget. �. Adjournment was at 4:45 P .M. Ralph P.. Booth y Town Clerk
