The meeting was - called to order at 1:30 P.M.. with• the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry Tuthill, Albertson and Clark; Town Supt., of' Y ,• Highyays Price; Town Ittorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a Committee on audit to examine claims - against the Town, concluding. the audit work at 2:30 P.M. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as ��- read. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Terry: �- Resolved: - That the regular monthly meeting of this Board be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport on Tuesday, January 181 1949, at 1:30 P.M. L � Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill: Resolved; That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp, be designated to rep- •- resent the Town of Southold at the annual meeting of the Association of Towns of the State of New York, to be held at New York, N.Y. , on February 16, 17 and 18, 1949, and to atst the vote of said Town of � - Southold, and that Justice Harry H. Terry be designated as alternate to cast the vote of said Town in the absence of Supervisor Klipp. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Terry: 4M Resolved: That on the recommendation. of Frederick Preston and Abbott Muir, Republican County Committeeman, Dist. #3, Town of Southold, Gottfried Arnold of East Marion,be and hereby is appointed a Special Constable to direct traffic at .the• Eaxt Marion School -- crossing, at a salary of $4.00 .per day, for each school day wrked, effective Jan. 10, 1949. He to serve at the pleasure of the Board. Said appointment is subject to the approval of the Suffolk County Civil Service Commission. Moved by Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:: WHEREAS, it has been recommended to the Town Board by the Board of Assessors that a Chairman of the Town Assessors ,be designated, now therefore be it RESOLVED, that Raymond W. Terry be and hereby is 'designated to hold the office of Chairman of the Town Board of Assessors until the first , day of January next succeeding such designation all in accordance. with 22 B of the .Town Law, and be it further " RESOLVED, that the compensation for cush appointment be fixed at $300- per year, payable in regular monthly payments. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Albertson: WHEREAS, ' Section 62 of .the Town Law requires that every Town Board shall meet on or after the 28th day of December, but not ? � later than the 31st day of December, in each year, and WHEREAS, there is no other time specified by law when meetings of the Town Board of a Second Class Town should be held, now therefore be it 1 .� RESOLVED, . that the Supervisor be and hereby is empowered to call ^ , all meetings of the Town Board as may be required for the best interest of -the Town, :and be it further RESOLVED, that each member of the Town Board be given at least 2 days notice in advsnce, of such meeting, ,notice to contain the �- ' time and place where such meeting is to be held. DTnanimously adopted. - 4 The following members of the Town Board are assigned by the Supervisor to the following -committees: Parks, Beaches and Recreation Judge Clark & Judge Tuthill Inland Waterway Improvements Judge Clark & Judge Tuthill Police Judge Albertson & Judge Terry Taxation and Finance .Judge Albertson & Judge Terry Highway Judge Terry and Judge Tuthill Supervisor Klipp ex-officio member of all committees Within sixty (60) days after the- close of the fiscal year' the Treasurer of each Fire District shall file in the office of the Town Clerk and the State Comptroller a financial statement setting forth in detail the receipts and expenditures of the Fire District for the previous fiscal year. (Section 181 of the Town Law) . r r On or before the 15th day of January in each year the Commissioners Imo + of each Improvement District shall file with the Town Clerk a . . financial report for the presiding fiscal year. (Section 215, Subdivision 9, Town Law. ) The Town Clerk should advise the Town Board as to existing bon- tracts, for lighting, garbage collection, fire protection, water supply, and also leases .of any property rented by the Town, and specify the date of expiration of such contracts. (Section 64 Subdivision 2 and 19, Section 183, 184 and 198, Subdivisions 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the Town Law,.) The Town Clerk should supply to the Executive Secretary of the Association of Towns at the Hotel Ten Eyck, Albany, New York, � ,- a correct list of the names .and addresses of all Town Officers and the Supervisor should advise the members that he, the Town Clerk, Justices of the Peace, Superintendent of- Hilghways, Assessors, Welfare Officer, and the Town Attorney will receive copies of meetings, bulletins issued by the Town and County Officers Train- ing School on subjects of interest and Importance to various , ► officers. 1 9 . The hearing on the Matter of purchasing machinery for the Town ! Highway Dept. was duly opened at 2:30 P.M. No person appeared before the. Board to speak against the items mentioned in the legal notice published in the Town newspapers, the hearing was closed at 2:45 P.M. Moved by Justice Terry- seconded by Justice Tuthill: Whereas the Town Superintendent of Highway did on the 7t13 day of January, 1949, duly recommend the purchase of certain machinery pur- suant to the provisions of Section 142 of the Highway Law, and a notice of such recommendation has been duly published as provided in such section. - r Now Therefore Be It Resolved that pursuant to Section. 142 of the Highway Law,the-.Town'..'SiAperintendent of.,-Highw&ys,;i's_-Y heir eby: authorized to purchase:...from.-,.Vail':.Bros:. :_Inc. with the approval of the County Superintendent of Highways: One (1) 1949 Packard Delux 8 cylinder 4-door sedan for a total price of Two Thousand nine hundred ninty-three & 95/100 Dollars ($2,993m95) , delivered at Peconic . L.1. 9 N.Y. , and to be delivered on or about January 15, 1949.
