The annual meeting and a public hearing of the Southold Town Board-
was held at Fishers Island on Tuesday, July 24, 1951, in the matter
of the aquisition on behalf of the Fishers Island Ferry District of ��.
an airport or landing field known as (Elizabeth Air Field) located
at Fort H.G. Wright, Present were: Supervisor Norman E. K.lipp;
Justices Terry; Tuthil19 Clark and Edwards; Superintendent of High-
ways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
Notice, of said hearing was duly posted- and published as required by law.
Supervisor Klipp opened the hearing at 2 o 'clock P:M.. and read the
call of the meeting
Discussion upon the aquisition. of said airfield having been had and
all persons desiring to be heard, having been heard the hearing was � .
duly closed at 3:30 P.M. Persons speaking in favor. of the said' air-
port were: A. John Gada, - Mr' . Wright, Harold Raker, Mrs. Thomas "
Russell, Jr. Mr. Doyen r �-
Persons speaking not in favor of said airport unless the Fishers
Island Ferry District Commissioners call a public hearing upon the
matter before submitting any plans of sub-leasing the airport to
the Town Board for its approval, were:H.Lee Ferguson,Jr. ; Mrs.H.1ee FergusoA--'
Mr. Foyle, Mrs. Pendleton, Alfred Ferguson, Miss Polly Edmonds.
A. John Gada, Chairman of the Board of the Commissioners of the
Fishers Island Ferry District, publicly announced that the com-
missioners would hold a public hearing in the matter of the
aquisition of the Fishers Island Ferry District of an airport,
before submitting any plans of sub-leasing the airport to the
Town Board for its approval. The Supervisor stated that whatever
the outcome of a public hearing to be called by the commissioners
of the Fishers Island Ferry District relative to thh gquisition of
an airport, the Town Board will take the recommendation of Justice
Edwards , providing he makes such a statement in writing.
Moved by Justice Edwards; seconded by Justice Clark:
WHEREAS , by Chapter 620 of the Laws of New York, 1951, it was
provided that the Town Board of the Town of Southold may acquire,
on behalf of the FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT, an AIRPORT or
LANDING .BIELD situated on Fishers Island,. after a public hearings
and may delegate jurisdiction, control and supervision of such airport
Or landing field to the BOARD OF FERRY DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS, and
WHEREAS, a public hearing as provided therein has been held, and
all persons having been heard in favor of and against the acquisition
of said airport or landing field, and
WHEREAS, in the considered opinion of the members of the Town Board,
the acquisition of such airport or landing field is in the public
interest,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Supervisor of the Town of . --
Southold be and he hereby is authorized and directed to acquire a
certain airfield situated at Fishers Island (known as ELIZABETH
AIR FIELD) together with the hangars and buildings thereon, in the
name of the Town of Southold, on behalf of the FISHERS ISLAND FERRY w Y
DISTRICT, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that, subject to written confirmation and
approval by the Secretary of the Army, the TOWN BOARD OF THE TOWN
OF SOUTHOLD delegate jurisdiction, control and supervision of such
air field to the BOARD OF FERRY COMMISSIONERS OF THE FISHERS ISLAND
FERRY DISTRICT 9 upon condition that said Commissioners pay annual
rental of $12. per year; that said premises be maintained in good �.-
repair; and that the Government and the Town of Southold be indem-
nified against loss arising, from injuries to persons or property,
arising out of the maintenance, and operation of such airport, and y '_

upon the further condition that such delegation of jurisdiction,
control and supervision shall be revocable at the pleasure of the
Town Board.

The Supervisor thereupon declared the Resolution duly -adopted.
Moved by Justice Edwards; seconded by Justice Terry:
WHEREAS,There existed a vacancy in the position of Manager of
the Fishers Island Ferry District as of December 20, 1950, and
WHEREAS, The Board of Commissioners of the Ferry .District pur—
suant to the provisions of Chapter 699 of the Laws of Mew York
r 1947, as amended, are empowered to appoint a Manager of the said
district, subject to the approval of the Southold Town Board, and
WHEREAS, The Commissioners of the said district appointed WILFRED)
-, C. SINCLAIR as Manager of the said district,. effective as of
June 13, 1951, at a compensation of Three Thousand Dollars
. ($3,000.00) per year, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Southold Town Board does hereby approve the
rr appointment of WILFRED C. SINCLAIR as Manager of the Fishers
Island Ferry js. trict, the effective date of said appointment
and the compensation therefor.
Unanimously adopted.

Resolved: That the reading of the previous meeting be dispensed

Resolved: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board
be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport, on Tues. ,
Aug. 7, 1951, at 1:30 P.M.
Unanimously adopted.
Moved by Justice Terry; Seconded by Justice Clark:
Resolved: Thatibond. No. o 5-510-604 issued by the American Surety
Company ,in the sum of- $1O00. on behalf of E. Perry Edwards, be
and.. the, same is her py approved as to form, sum., manner of
execution and sufficiency of surety therein.
Four vot.es' in the •affirmative - Justice Edwards not voting.
The subject was brought up, when is Peninsula Road going to be
oiled? Town Superintendent of Highways Price stated that this.
road- would beloiled either this. fall or next spring and that grit
or blue stone would be applied to the surface.
Mr. Foyle spoke on the possibility of a garbage disposal on Fishers
Island. He stated that a committee had been appointed from the
Civic Associati�i to see what could be done about such a pnbject.
Mrs. Marjorie .Wickham brought to the attention of the Town Board
that the street lights in front of the Mattituck Theatre are ire
adequate.

Resolved: That the Town Cleik be and hereby is directed to request the
Long Island Lighting Company to install—one—additional 400 c.p.
aerial street light on an eight (8) foot arm on pole No. 405; also
change the existing street light on pole No. 406 to 400 c.p. on
an eight foot arm in the Mattituck Lighting District No. 1, on '
Route 25 in front of the Mattituck Theatre. .
