The meeting. was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp, Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson, Clark and Edwards; Town Superintendent of High- ways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The- minutes of the pr&vious meeting were read and were duly approved as read. Moved by Justice .Tuthill; seconded by Justice Clark: Resolved: That the regular monthly audit meeting of thins Board be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport, . ;,. on Tues. , July 10, 1951, at 1:30 .P.M. Unanimously adopted. A petition was presented to the Town Board claiming to represent more than 51% of the taxable property and .prop- `� erty owners of the territory west of the Village of Greenport, requesting the formation of a lighting- district, bounded as follows: North by Front -Street, East by- District Line, South by Oak Grove• Beach Realty Corporation , West by Ninth Street. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Albertson: Resolved: That the petition requesting the Town Board to establish a lighting district in that section west of the Village of Greenport be turned over to the Town Attorney for further information. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson,' Resolved: That the street lighting contract between the Town of Southold and the Long Island Lighting -Company covering the Peconic Lighting District for a period of five (15) Years commencing July 1, 1951, be and hereby is approved by the Town Board. =" Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Albertson.: Resolved: That Chief of Police Otto L. Anrig be authorized to attend the New York State Chief of Police Convention, to be held at New York, on July 24-25-26. Unanimously adopted. The following Resolution offered by Justice ClarR; seconded by Justice Terry on roll call was unanimously adopted. .. Perry Edwards Justice of the Peace 1� IN THE MATTER -OF- �.. The acquisition, on behalf of the Fishers Island Ferry District, of ,an airport or landing field situated on Fishers islands in the Town of Southold' Suffolk County, New York. WHEREAS, Sub-division 5a of Chapter 620 of The Laws of i4ew York,1951, provides for the acquisition by the Town Board of the Town of Southold, on behalf of the Fishers Island Ferry District, of an airport or landing field situated on Fishers Island after a public hearing as provided therein, and WHEREAS, Sub-division 5b of Chapter 620 of The Laws of New York 1951, provides that when any such airport or landing field shall have been so acquired, the Town Board may delegate jurisdiction,control and supervision of such . airport or landing field to the Board of Ferry District Commissioners, and WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold has temporarily acquired by lease frorp the Secretary of the Army a certain air field ( known as "Elizabeth Air Field" ) includ- ing hangar building No.254, located at Fort H.G.Wright, Fishers Island, New York, at an annual rental of $12. per -ti- year, and upon condition that the premises be maintained in good repair and that the Government be indemnified against loss arising from injuries to persons or property arising out �- of the maintenance and operation of such airport, and WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Town Board to - hold a public hearing in order to determine whether such acquisition is in the public interest, it is hereby ORDERED, that a meeting of the Town Board of said Town of Southold, shall be held at the Fishers Island School, Fishers Island, in said Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, on the 24th day of July, 1951, at two o 'clock in .. the afternoon of that day (Daylight Saving Time) for the purpose of determining whether the acquisition of such rt� airport is in the public interest and to hear all persons , interested in the subject thereof, concerning the same and for such other action on the part of said Town Board with relation to said acquisition as may be required by law or proper in the premises. WHEREAS, the Estate of Frank Szawinski by it's attorney, John A. ' O'Keefe, Esq. , has duly filed a claim against the Town of Southold ,Y• for damages allegedly as a result of activities at the Town dump ` adjacent , to the farm of the estate of said decedent w1gere refuse and -.. papers were carried by the wind from the dump to the estate farm and where ignited papers; were blown from the dump to the farm re- sulting in the destruction of a patch of rye and a patch of hay, and WHEREAS;, the said Estate of Frank Szrawinski has duly filed its claim in the sum of Fifty ('$50.00)i Dollars against the Town of Southold„ and WHEREAS, in the considered opinion of the members of the Town Board of the Town of Southold, said claim is a valid an d proper claim against the Town of Southold, NJOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to pay to the Estate of Frank S:zawinski the sum of Fifty ($50.001 Dollars in payment of any and all claims against the Town of Southold by virtue of said damage. ., Unanimously adopted. - - Adjounnment was at 4 P.M. _sue Ralph P.
