-' The Southold Town Board met at the office of °upervisor S. Wentworth
- , Horton at Greenport' on,Wednesday, August 27, 1947. The meeting
was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present:
Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry, Hawkins , Klipp and Tuthill; Town
uperintendent of Highways , Price; Town Attorney, Terry and Town Clerk,
Booth.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and -duly approved as read.
�— The hearing on the proposed ordinance prohibiting parking motor vehicles
on the westerly side of Village Lane in the Hamlet of Orient, was duly
opened at 2:00 P .M. As there were no interested persons having ap-
peared before the Board to speak either for or against the ordinance
the hearing was' formally closed at 2:30 P.M.
Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
_. , Resolved: l'hat the following Ordinance prohibiting parking on Village
Lane, in the Hamlet of Orient be adopted:
' SECTION 19-Definitions: "Motor Vehicle" shall include all vehicles
propelled by any power other than muscular power, except motor cycles,
' traction engines, road rollers, fire and police vehicles , tractors
used exclusively for agricultural purposes , tractor cranes , power
V , shovels, road building machines, snow plows, road sweepers , and spread-
ers, well drillers, elecftric trucks with small wheels used in factories ,
warehouses an d railroad stations and operated principally on private
property and such vehicles as run only upon rails or tracks.
'~ "Park "parking" or "Parked" shall mean the stopping of a motor t;ehicle
or motor cycle upon any public highway and leaving such motor vehicle
or motor cycle unattended by a person capable of operating it, for
a period longer than necessary to load or. unload passengers or freight. "
SECTION 2,- The parking of motor vehicles on the westerly side of
Village Lane, in the Hamlet of Orient, froma point on the westerly side
thereof at the intersection of the southerly side of Skippers Lane
with the westerly side of Village Lane and running northerly alone
the said westerly side of Village Lane for a distance of. 3.10 feet, is
hereby prohibited.
SECTION 3 ,- Any person violating any provision of this ordinance may
upon conviction be punished for the first offense by a fine not exceed-
ing five dollars, and for the second or subsequent offense by a fine
of not less than ten dollars and not more than twenty-five dollars.
The above Ordin ance becomes effective on the loth day of September ,
- 1947
Moved by Justice Klipp; seconded by 'Justice Hawkins:
Resolved: That the douthold Town Bard establish a sppd limot zone
from the northerly line of Greenport Village to the intersection of
_ the County and State .Highways, and have -erected thereon proper signs
reading #¢35 M. per hour", and that the Town Clerk be instructed to
forward a certified copy of the Resolution to the Greenport Village
Board.
Unanimously adopted.
The sown Clerk was instructed to communicate with the Greenport
Village •Boa.rd and inform them that the Town Board is taking up further
the matter of spped limit signs with the New York State Hightiray
Department, -on route 25, west of the Village of Greenport.

Resolved: That William J. Distler of Greenport , be and is hereby
appointed a Special Constable to direct traffic at the Southold
,. School crossing at Oak Lawn Ave. and Main Road, at a salary of $4.00
per day, for each school day, to serve at the pleasure of the Board.
Unanimously adopted.
Moved 'by Justice Klipp; seconded by Justice Terry:
Resolved: That the Town of Southold purchase the property on the
east side of Sound Road in Greenport, adjourining Long Island Sound
for the sum of $4,800. for the purpose of widening and leveling Sound
Road, and for useof the dirt as a fill as much as the Board deems
it advisable ,which is much needed on the highways' and that the
Supervisor be authorized to sign with James H. Zimmer and sister for

the purchase of same, to pay 10% or as much as is necessary on said _
contract , and when title is searched to pay the balance of purchase
price and accept a deed conveying said real property to the Town of �-
Southold.

Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Klipp:
Resolved: ha.t the Chief of Police be and is hereby authorized to Y
purchase four rain-coats to be used by the Town Police.

Resolved: Ihat the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board be
held on Thurs day, Sept. 4, 1947, at 1:30 P.M.

Meeting- of September 4, 1947
The Southold Town Board met at the office of- Supervisor S. Went-
worth Horton, at Greenport , on Thursday, September 4, 1947. The
meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present:;
Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry, Hawkins , Klipp and Tuthill; Town
Superintendent of Highways , Price and Town Clerk Booth.
The board sat at once as a Committee on Audit to examine claims
against the -gown, concluding the audit at 2:00 P .M. I
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved l
as read.
Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice . Hawkins:
Resolved: 'hat General Bills in the amount of $1,915. 54 and non-
reimbursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $9.45,. be, and the same
are hereby ordered paid..
Unanimously adopted.
At 2:;30 P.N. the Board went to view the road at Id st Greenport ex-
tendino from the Main Road to the Bay'n ptpperty of Edna Brown, which
Clarence Roach and others had previously requested the Board to take _y
over and work as a .public highway. The Board then view the road' on
henry Smith' s property at Southold, situated on Long Creek, and also
went to Cutchogue to inspect the Town Dump. No action was taken, � ,..-
and the consideration of above matters was laid on the table until the
next meeting. -_

Resolved: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board be held at
the Supervisor 's office on Frid ay, September 19, 1947, at 1:30 P.M.
Unanimously adopted.
