Meeting of May 23, 1947
The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor S . Wentworth
Horton at Greenport., on Friday, May 23 , 1947. The meeting was. called
to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following Present: Supervisor Horton;
Justices Terry; Hawkins; Klipp and Tuthill; Town .Superintendent .of .
Highways, Price; Town Attorney, Terry and Town Clerk, Booth.
A delegation of citizens from East Marion and Orient appeared before y ':
the Board, requesting that some action be taken in reference to the i ,.
erosion of the Soun d Beach .at East Marion on the property of George
H. Tisdale. Edwin H., King, Irving C. Latham, David Gillispie, Wayland
Brown.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as
read.
The hearing on the matter of purchasing machinery for the Town High-
way Dept. was duly opened at 2:00 P.M. No person appeared before the
Board to speak against the items mentioned in the legal notice pub-
blished in the Town newspapers, the hearing was closed at 2:1 5 P.M.

Whereas the Town Superintendent did on the 23rd day of May, 1947,
duly recommend the purchase of certain machinery pursuant to the
provisions of Section 142 of the Highway Law, and a notice of such
recommendation has been duly published as provided in such action,
Now Therefore Be It Resolved that pursuant to Section 142 of the High-
way Law the Town Superintendent of Highways is hereby authorized to
purchase from Long Island Produce & Fertilizer Co. , Inc. , Rivehhead,
L.I . , New York with the approval of the County Superintendent of
Highways: "-
1-International Truck, Model KBS-8, 149" w.b. chassis; 2 speed
rear axle; Air brakes; HFA Cab; Delux oil filter; Heater & defroster;
Front tow Hook; Large capacity radiator; F52C direct in 5th trans-

mission; Gar. Wood F4Ca Hoist with power takeoff & Drive; H-1, 3 cu.
yd. dump body, double acting tailgate; J #8 g.a. cab protector,
installed, sprayed to match cab. for a total price of: Five thousand
six hundred seventy-seven & 56/100-Dollars .(#59677. 56) , delivered ;
at Peconic, L.I . , N.Y. , and to be delivered on or about June 15, 1947.
The. Town Superintendent of Highways is hereby authorized, subject . �
to the approval of the County Superintendent of Highways , to surrender
to the above named vendor one 1936 International Dump Truck as part
payment for the above machinery to be purchased.
The terms of payment will be as follows:

A contract of purchase for the item purchased shall be duly executed
between the Town Superintendent of Highways and such vendor , and when ..
duly approved by the County Superintendent of Highways, it shall become
effective. When such contract has been duly executed and approved,
the Supervisor is authorized. to complete such purchase upon delivery . T.
of the item purchased in accordance with the terms of such resolution
and such contract, and to pay the above ®mounts specified to be paid
by check or checks.

(1) by a' check drawn on the Machinery Fund (Item 3) for $1,21 5.20.
(2) by a check in the amount of $99000.00 drawn on the account
established from the proceeds of obligations to be issued pursuant
, to the Local Finance Law to finance such purchase. Such obligations
^� will be authorized to be issued by`thls Board by 'a separate .r.esolution.

A- letter was read from the Catholic War Veterans of Greenport, re-
questing maintenance of rooms.
Moved by Justice Klipp; seconded. by Justice Tuthill:
Resolved: That pursuant to sub-division 13 of sec. 64 of ' the. Town
Law, the Town Board will consider .the requests as soon as the
r Veterans secure headquarters.
Unanimously adopted.
Moved by Justice Hawkins; seconded by Justice Terry:
Resolved: That Arthur F. Bennett of Southold, be and is hereby ap-
pointed Special Constable to direct traffic at the Southold School
�.Y crossing, at Oaklawn Ave. and Main Road, at a salary of $4.00 per
day, retroactive as of May 12, 1947.

Resolv6d__`,'That John Muir, Special Constable be granted a vacation
of two pay, beginning on May 28.9 1947•.

Resolved: That Justice Tuthill be appointed a committee -of one
to arrange to- have built, two picnic tables , a fireplace , also a
� pump driven on Town owned property. at .-Laurel Lake.

`Resolved: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this board be
=' held on Tuesday, June 3, 1947, at 1:30 P.M.
