HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-10/08/1946 Meeting of October 8, 1946 . .r • The Southold frown Board met at the office of Supervisor S. Wetitworth Horton, at Greenport, on Tuesday, October 8, 1946. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with' the following _ent : Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry, Hawkins and Klipp ; Town uperg intendent of Highways Price;, Town Attorney,Terry and Town C. .eitk , Booth. _ The Board sat at once as a committee on audit to examine claims agdinst the town, concluding the audit at 2 P.M. _ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as -i read. The following Resolution offered by Justice Tipp and seconded by Justice Terry, was unanimously adopted by a rising vote : Whereas , God in His Providence has taken from our midst the spirit of Oliver W. Case , and ; Whereas , Oliver W. Case served the Town of Southold as a Justice of the Peace faithfully and eff ieiently for several years. Therefore Be It Resolved : That the Town Board deeply mourns the loss of this friend and Town Official and extends its profound sympathy to his bereaved family. . � Be It Further Resolved,: That the Town Clerk be and he is hereby directed to spread this Resolution upon the minutes of this meeting, and he is further directed to send a copy thereof to the members of the bereaved family. Moved by Justice Terry, seconded by Justice Klipp. 'Whereas , the death of Justice Oliver W. Case occured too late for the vacancy to be filled at the General Election to be held on Nov. 5, 1946. Therefore Be It Resolved : That Ralph W. Tuthill of Mattituck be and he is hereby appointed a Justice of the Peace of the Town of Southold « a . . to fill out the unexpired term of the late :,Oliver W. Case, said Ralph W. Tuthill to assume the duties of said office as soon as qualified* unanimously adopted. Mr. Clarence C. Roach and others appeared ,bef,ore the Town Board -c. petitioning the Board to take over and work as a public highway a road at ±kzxWest Greenport extending from the Main Road to the Bay. The Board viewed the road and instructed the Town Clerk to write and inform Mr. Roach that if he can secure a public crossing over the Long Island Railroad truck, and dedicate one hundred (100) feet of upland on the Bay at a distance of 270 < � feet, draw-up the necessary papers and present them to the Town - Board ,with survey description in duplicate the Board will then take action on the road in question. Moved by Justice Hawkins, seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved : That the Town Board hereby approves the purchase of a �— typewriter for use in the Town Offices at a purchase price of 101.32. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Terry, seconded by Justice Klipp : Resolved : That Antone Ghituk be granted a leave of absence from his duties on the Police Force to take effect at once and terminate on January 15, ' 1947. Unanimously adopted. r. Moved by Justice Hawkins , seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved : That the Supervisor be appointed a committee of one to. fill the temporary vacancy caused by the leave of absence granted Antone Ghituk, he to. interview George Muir .and William Granger. Unanimously adopted. 54 Moved by Justice Hawkins , seconded by Justice Klipp ; Resolved : that as the required papers have been duly received -• by the 'own Board and the map has been duly filed, the Town Board take over and maintain the road known as Parkers Landing in the Village of Pec onie. T Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Hawkins, seconded by Justice Klipp : Resolved : That General Bills, in the amount of $2,030.44, Re- imbursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $22.58, Non-reimbursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $21.04 be and the same is hereby --f - ordered, paid. Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Hawkins , seconded by Justice Terry; ` Resolved: .That the Town Board dyes hereby prepare and approve as the preliminary budget of this Town for the fiscal year yr- beginning on the lst day of January, 1:947 .uthe itemized statement of estimated revenues and expenditures hereto attached and made a part of this resolution, and -T Be It Further Resolved, that, this Board squall meet at 2 o •clokk P.M. on the 7th day of November, 1946, for the purpose of holding a public hearing in the manner provided in Section 113 of the r.�f Town Law.' Unanimously adopted. Moved by Justice Hawkins , seconded by Justice Terry; Resolved: That the regular monthly meeting of the Town Board be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1946, at 1130 P.M. Unanimously adopted. Adjournment was at 4 P.M. Ralph P. Booth Town Clerk ' Addition to meeting of Sept . 17 , 1946. Moved by Justice Terry, seconded by Justice Hawkins ; Whereas , Under Section 86, Paragraph 2, of the Social Welfare Law of the State of New York, payments of reimbursable home relief may be made by the 'Town Welfare Officer from. a revolving fund, set up by .the Town Board: •� Be It Resolved: That the Town Board of the Town of Southold,. New York, establish a revolving fund of $2,000. in the Bank of Southold, New. York, out of which fund, the Welfare Officer shall pay cash grants ' of reimbursable home relief to recipients of home relief, and ap- proved reimbursable claims of suppliers for services and/or mat- erials furnished to- home relief recipients, on authorization of t 4. the Welfare Officer. Be It ,Further. Revolved : That such revolving *fund be made available to the said Welfare Officer on Jan. 1., 1947. -� Be It Further Resolved : That the said Welfare Officer of said Town of Southold , New York, furnish an approved bond of $2,000. ,to the Town Board of the said Town of Southold, New York, for the proper performance of his duties : and 4 Be It further Resolved : That the cost of said bond be a proper charge against the said Town of Southold, New York.
