necessary pipes. and hydrants., figuring not less than 10 hy-
drants `to the mile:-in the parts of this area which are not now ��-
piped,, providing of course that this' work be done as materials
become available.
Several residents of the East-Kest Fire Protection _
District responded. The majority, spoke in favor of the Village `r
of Greenport furnishing fire protection and hydrants: y

Meeting of May 1,72 1946
The Southold Town Board met. at the office of Supervisor Horton
at Greenport, on Friday, May 17 , 1946. The meeting was called to
order at 1 :30 P.M. with the following present : Supervisor Horton,
Justices , Terry, Hawkins and Idipp ; Town Supt. of Highwasy Price; ��-
Town Attorney ,Terryand Town. Clerk. Booth.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as T-

The Board then sat as a committee on audit to examine claims
against: the town; . �

Resolved : That General Bills in the amount of $2,532*00; Reim-
bursable Welfare Bills in the amount of $14.98 and Non-reimbur-
sable Welfare Bills in the amount of $39.19 be and the same is
hereby ordered paid. . Y `

Resolved : That the salary of the Chairman of 'the Board of As-
sessors be placed at $1 500: per annum, effective June 1, 1946, . �

WHEREAS, these has been duly established in this Town a fire
protection district known as "East-West Greenport Fire Protection 1 ,
District, Town of Southold, N.Y." embracing Vterritory in said Town
adjacent to the Village of Greenport , New Y .rk, as such territory
is more fully described in the resolution establishing such dis-
trict, and duly adopted by this Board on the 14th day of Nov. 1945,
and
ti7HEREAS, it was proposed that a contract be net-eyed into with
the Village of Greenport for the furnishing of fire protection
to such district, and ` >
WHEREAS, due notice has been given of a public hearing to b;e
held at this. Village .on the 22nd day of Apr. ; 1946, at 8 o 'clock P.M.
to consider. such a contract, the notice duly specifying the time and
place of the hearing, as aforesaid, and giving in general terms- ►�-
the proposed contract, and all persons interested and. appearing
having been heard, it is hereby
RESOLVED, that this Town. Board contract with the said ._-
Village of Greenport for the furnishing of fire protection to .such
district in the following form:-
THIS AGREEMENT, made this day of 1946, between the --
Town Board of the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York,
hereinafter designated as party of the second part, - "
WITNESSETH, whereas there has been duly established in the
said Town of Southold a fire protection district known as "East-
West Greenport Fire Protection District, Town of Southold, N.Y."
embracing territory in said Town adjacent to said Village of �.
Greenport, as such territory is more fully described in the
resolution establishing such district and duly adopted by the
Town Board of 'sa id Town on the 14th of Nov. , 1946; and
AREAS, following a 'public hearing duly called,, the said Board
the party of the first part, duly authorized a contract with the
party of the second part for fire protection to said district

upon the terms and provisions herein set forth, and
WHEREAS, this contract has also been duly authorized by
the Board of Trustees , and Mayor of the party of the second part,
NOW, THEREFORE, the party of the first part does engage the
party of the second part to furnish fire protection to said dis-
trict and the party of the second part agrees to furnish such pro-
tection in manner following, to wit
i 1. The fire department of the said party of the second part
shall at all times during the period of this agreement be subject
to call for attendance upon any fire .occurring in such district,
and when notified -by alarm or telephone call from any person with-
in �,a:-, distance of a fire within the district, such department
shall respond and attend upon the fire within delay with one or
' more companies and with suitable ladder, pumping and hose ap-
paratus of the party of the second part as follows :-
2 750 gal. pumpers
1 550 gal. pumper with 300 gal. water
1 500. gal. pumger with 150 gal. water
1 hook and ladder
1 flood light
J,. 1 salvage wagon
Upon arriving at the. scene of the fire, the firemen of the
party of the second part attending shall proceed diligently and
in every way reasonably suggested to the: extinguishment of the
-y fire, and the saving of life and property in connection herewith.
2. In consideration of furnishing aid and the use of the ap-
paratus as .aforesaid, the pf�rty of the secnd part shall receive
�c the sum of THIRTY SIX HUNDRED ($3600) Dollars per year during
the period of this agreement.
3. The party of the second part further agrees to install
water mains and fur�iish water for fire protection purposes at
._, the rate of Forty ($40) Dollars per year per hydrant for a term
of five (5) years and that payment for same shall begin after -
each hydrant is installed and in working order, and the party
of the second part further agrees that it will extend its water
mains for the purpose of furnishing water for fire protection and
will install ten (10) hydrants per mile, and that said ' instal-
lation shall conform to the requirements of Suburban Insurance
Underwriters Board with reference to reduced insurance because
of said hydrant service.
_.,. 4. All moneys to be paid under this agreement shall be a
charge upon the said Fire Protection District to be assessed and
levied upon the Taxable property in said District and collected
with the town taxes and shall be payable .
5. This agreement shall continue for a period of five (5)
y, years from the date hereof.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have duly executed and del-
ivered this agreement, the day and .year above mentioned.

The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor S.
Wentworth Horton, at Greenport, on Tuesday June 4, 1946.
The meeting was called to order at 1 :30- P.M. with the following i
present : Supervisor Horton;. Justices Terry, Hawkins and Klipp ,
Town Supt. of Highways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town
Clerk Booth.
The Board sat at once as a Committee on Audit to examine claims
against the Town concluding the audit at 2 P.M. The minutes
of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as read, r
Moved by Justice Hawkins, seconded by Justice Terry;
_ RESOLVED: That the salary of Eloise Bowden, Junior Stenogra-
pher in the Town Offices , be placed at $1600. per annum, ►�-
effective as of July 1, 1946.

RESOKVED: That General Bills in the amount of $1:9M94; Re-

WHEREAS : The legal voters of the Mattituck Park District hav-
ing legally adopted a proposition to acquire certain land in ' .
said district for park purposes, and having voted to borrow R-?
the sum of $4500: to pay therefore, such sum to be paid in
installments by the issuing bonds , and the said proposition
having therefore been approved by this Town Board, and the -
commissioners of said Mattituck 'Park District having applied
to this Board to authorize the Supervisor of Southold Town
to issue a certificate of indebtedness in the sum of $4500,
in anticipation of the issuing of said bonds ,
It is Hereby
RESOLVED: That Supervisor Horton be authorized to issue
such certification in the name of Southold Town on behalf
of the Mattituck Park District and to, pay the proceeds to
the Treasurer of said district in anticipation of a bond
issue to repay same. 1�

RESOLVED: That the schedule presented to the Town Board by
the Superintendent of Highways on the proposed increase of f�
salaries of employees of the Highway Department be approved '
as to the following schedule; Mechanics $1.20 per hr;
Foreman $1.15 per hr; Operators $1.00 and $1.10 per hr;
Laborers .85¢ per hr. for a five day week. The increase is As of June 1, 1946.
Unanimously adopted.
A public hearing will be held at the office of Supervisor
Horton, at Greenport on June 21, 1946 at 1:30 P.M. to consider
the recommendation of the Superintendent of Highways for the
purchase of machinery and equipment in excess of 4500. in
accordance �iri.th Chester 142 of the Highway Law.
