-Y dollars per annu.m. This protection is to include the use

QUESTION 2 V
Shall the Town Board of the Town of Southold denter
into a five year contract with the Incorporated Village of
r Greenport vLerein the Village of Greenport agrees to furnish
fire hydrants for the East-West Fire Protection District. for
five years at forty (40) dollars per h*grant per annum.
QUESTION 1
As the assessed valuation of this Fire Protection
_ District. is , on the latest assessment roll-, the sum of
$1,391,258, the cost for the protection offered under Question I
will be about $2.60 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation.
This of course could vary up or down as the assessed valuation
of this district might increase or decrease over a period of
years.
QUESTION 2
It is figured roughly that 110 hydrants would cover
the entire Fire Protection District so that all dwellings would
be within the required distance from hydrants to come within the
insurance requirements for 3qa:k protected property. Thus , the sum
of $4400, per annum would be required. This is about $3.16 per
thousand of assessed valuation. It is believed that this would
reduce insurance cost to individual home owners by about. 50
4
per cent. The Village of Greenport agrees to put in the
necessary pipes. and hydrants., figuring not less than 10 hy-
drants `to the mile:-in the parts of this area which are not now -
piped,, providing of course that this' work be done as materials
become available.
Several residents of the East-Kest Fire Protection _
District responded. The majority, spoke in favor of the Village `r
of Greenport furnishing fire protection and hydrants: y
