HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-08/22/1952-FI 42 MEETING OF AUGUST 22, 1952. The annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Friday, .August 22, 1952. The meeting was held in the auditorium of the Fishers Island School and was called to order by Supervisor Klipp at 7 P. M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry , Tuthill, Clark and Edwards; Town Superintendent of Highways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. Also Attorney Irving L. Price Jr. and a delegation of Fishers Island residents . Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Vote of Town Board: Ayes- Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Clark and Edwards. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport, on Tuesday, September 9, 1952, at 1:30 P. M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes- Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Clark and Edwards . ' Supervisor Klipp opened the meeting with brief remarks and inquired if there were any problems the Fishers Island people would like to discuss . Mrs. Mildred Andrews stated she would like the private road where she resides cleared of snow during the winter months , so that a doctor or fireman could reach her home when needed. Supervisor Klipp and Supt. of Highways Trice explained to her that the state highway law would ` not permit the highway department to enter on private property, but in an emergency, if notified, arrangements would be made so that the high- way ddpartment snowplow would preceed the doctor or firemen and clear the road of snow. Mr.. Louis Greico stated that therewas no pressure in the water mains and something should be done about it. At times it was almost imposs- ible to get water. Supervisor Klipp informed him that it was not a Town matter and was entirely between the people of Fishers Island and the water district. Supervisor Klipp called their attention to the Multiple Resident Law which became effective July 1, 1952. He explained it in detail and stated it was very essential that each Fire Department select a member as a Fire Department Inspector and present his name to the Town Board for appointment. r Supervisor Klipp stated that in maj'ing up the annual preliminary budget it is very important that all special districts according to law make out a detailed estimate in writing of the amount of revenues to be re- ceived and the expenditures to be ,made for the next fiscal year and file <: in the Town Clerk' s Office before September 30th. There was a lengthy discussion pro and con on the incorporation of Fishers Island as a village. It was suggested that the matter be taken up with the Civic Association. Also brief discussion on the Fishers Island Refuse and Garbage District and the Fishers Island Ferry District, Mr. Henry L , Ferguson spore very appreciatively of the Town Board for what they and Supervisor jilipp have done for the people of Fishers Is- r land and asked that a vote of thanks be extended to them, which was met with a round of applause. Also that a vote of thanks be extended to Harold Price , Superintendent of Highways , for the excellent work that is being done on the Highways on Fishers Island. This was met with a tremendous ovation for which Mr. Price expressed his thanks and gave assurance of continued work on the Fishers Island highways . Adjournment was at 9 P; M. Ralph P.
