HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-08/28/1945-FI 5 1.7 Meeting of August 28, 1945 The annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Tuesday, August 28, 1945. The Board left the Orient Point Dock at 11: A.M. aboard the "Alma,' Captain W. t ' Raynor Wickham, accompanied by Chief Otto L. Anrig; Receiver of Taxes , Albert Iff. Richmond; George I. Tuthill, Supt. of Schools, Harry W. I.slard, and Meade Dobson arriving at Fishers Island at 1 :00 P.M. The meeting was held in the auditorium of the Fishers Island School, and was called to order at 2:00 P.M. with the following present : Supervisor Horton; Justices Terry; Hawkins and Shanklin; Town Superintendent of Highways ,- Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and duly approved as read. A petition was read, duly. signed by more than fifty-one per- cent of the resident taxgapers in District No. 10, east of the boundary line of Southold Fire District , petitioning the Town Board to' include their property in the Southold Fire District. s> Moved by Justice Hawkins ; seconded by Justice Shanklin : Resolved :. That the area which was petitioned and mapped be accepted. Unanimously adopted. '�. Mr. Williamson of the Suffolk County Mosquito extermination �t Commission gave a very interesting talk on D.D.T. in control of. mosquitos and other insects. Mr. Fred Smith spoke on a plan to establish airplane service between MacArthur Field, Ronkonkoma and Fishers ' Island. => Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Shanklin: Resolved : That the `town Bo rd _go on record as favoring ' > establishing„an,:' airplane service between Ronkonkoma and Fishers Island. a Unanimously adopted. Supervisor Horton expressed his appreciation for such a large gathering of the Fishers Island folks and also spoke on General Town affairs. Superintendent of Highways Price spoke on Highway matters per- 'r"�. taining 'to the roads on Fishers Isl-and and other highway matters. A substantial delegation of Sishers Island residents were present and brief discussions were Yield pertaining to Fishers Island matters. Moved by JUstice Hawkins; seconded by Justice Terry: Resolved : That the regular monthly audit meeting of the Town ' Board b'e held on Wednesday, September 5, 1945, at 1:30 P.M. r.
