Box ' 178 Peconic, New York 11958 Re: HERODOTUS DAMIANOS SUBDIVISION Jennings Road Extension - Southold SCTM # 1000 - 59 - 03 - 28 Dear Ray: The Planning Board has been notified that the above referenced subdivision has been completed. At this time, the Planning Board is requesting a final inspection report on the status of the project . The extension to Jennings Road has been completed according to the engineering report , which outlined the specifications andthe drainage design requirements, that was written when the subdivision was approved . All drainage structures have been installed and all road profiles and asphalt wearing surfaces have been completed in a satisfactory manner . There is , however, one minor item that still requires work . Two thirds of the road shoulder along the cul-de-sac has a very steep incline that is excessively high . Several large trees are also located at the top of this grade . Prior to acceptance of this section of road for dedication by the Town, additional excavation should be requ red to rve-duce the Sivy�a to a maximum grade of 1 on 3 and additional trees should be removed as required . Davis sent to you on May 31, 1986 and again on April 5, 1990. A copy of Report No. 251 which was sent to you on November .9, 1982 is also included for your guidance. The following remains to be completed: 1. Clear the cul-de-sac of brush. A large brush dump exists in the cul-de-sac . 2. The road and turning area are rough graded only. The road as it presently exists does not agree with the enclosed road profile dated November 28, 1983 . A copy of this profile is enclosed for your use. 3 . The road must be paved to conform to the Town Highway Specifications at the time of approval, which was Augus.t 31, 1982. The. Town Engineer' s Report No. 251, which was approved by the Board on November 8 , 1982, requires pulvermix or black top for the road surface. 4 . Leaching basins must be installed at the low points of the road. The location of the basins must be approved by the Superintendent of Highways before installation. HERODO TUS DAMIANAS - MINOR SUBDIVI SION'A T SOU MOLD PROPOSED ACCESS ROAD COMMENTS: I'visited the above subdivision on October 14, 1982 an3 submitted Report No. 251 (copy attached) with recommendations for the access road. The 20 ft. pavement ;­.dth was discussed with.Highway Superintendent R. C. Dean. In addition to the recommendations a center line profile with side elevations based on O.S. elevations was requested. I visited the site again on February 13, 1984. Clearing in the R.O.W. and tjzrning area has been completed and the abrupt change in existing contours in the road area in contrast with the proposed profile now stands out. The profile appears to accommodate the existing terrain well enough. However, fill at Sta 1 00 will block rainfall runoff from Lots No. 2 and 3 and may cause ponding under certain .conditions. The westerly sides of Lots No. 2 and 3 should be graded to the pavement profile. Also, the profile shows a leaching basin at Sta 1 +00 which is also the intersection of the 7% and 0.5%'grades. A small vertical curve should be used here (say a 50 ft. V.C. or less) and the leaching basin or basins be located at the correct low point. The length at 300 feet and width at 20 ft. as recommended are in order except for a short length at the beginning where the width is less than 20 ft. The cul-de-sac (turning area) has not been cleared or graded in accordance with the map by Van Tuyl where it is shown correctly with a diameter of 100 feet. It has been graded with a diameter of 47 ft. t at the toe of slopes. The paved turning area should have a diameter of at least 80 ft. I have discussed this with Vx. There is no pipe connection between the leaching basins at the low point in the road as recommended. As noted above, the road as graded will require some additional work to insure that runoff goes to the low point at the leaching basins and is crowned prior to placing the surface course. Davis Date: April 12, 1985 RE: ACCESS ROAD FOR MINOR SUBDIVISION OF DR. HERODOTUS DAMIANOS AT SO?JTHOLD COMMENTS AS FOLLOW: The road and turning area are rough graded only. The length at 300 feet and width at 20 ft. as recommended are in order except for a short length at the beginning where the width is less than 20 ft. The cul-de-sac (turning area) has not been cleared or graded in accordance with the map by Van Tizyl where it is shown correctly with a diameter of 100 feet. It has been graded with a diameter of 47 ft. ± at the toe of slopes. The paved turning area should have a diameter of at least 80 ft. I have discussed this with Mr. Raymond Dean, Highway Superintendent, and he is in agreement that the standard Town paved width for the turning area be constructed. There is no pipe connection between the leaching basins at the low point in the road as recommended. As noted above, the road as graded will require some additional work to insure that runoff goes to the low point at the leaching basins and is crowned prior to placing the surface course. All of the above construction was done without any inspection on my part, as I was not notified when the work was to be done. C.C. R.C. Subdivision of Herodotus Damianos Dear Mr. Raynor: I had heretofore submitted to the Board in behalf of the above- named client, a proposed minor -subdivisionconsisting of four (4) lots with a road to be constructed along the southerly boundary of the premises . At the meeting at which the proposed minor subdivision was submitted, the Board indicated at that time that it did not wish to have the road in the area in which it was proposed. The Board at that time requested that I look into the possibility of running a road from Sound View Avenue through the center of the proposed lots as a means of providing access to the lots in the rear. After looking into the possibility of such proposal, ,it has been determined that that would not be a suitable place to place the pro- posed road due to the 'fact that the elevation of the property drasti- cally rises from Sound View Avenue from 35 to 80 feet. It can be readily seen that this would cause a great deal of problem with re- spect to drainage and appearance with respect to this proposed road. The proposed road would run elevations according to the surveyor from 65 to 80 feet which would cause no problem relative to road construction in terms of appear- ance or drainage.
