As you may remember,Mr. King suggested that we eliminate a 13 foot section of the seaward bulkhead as a cost cutting measure. After consulting with our Dockbuilder,John Hocker of Latham Sand and Gravel, it was determined that this section is required to support the large overhanging platform and subsequent ramp down to the floating dock. He also stated that any savings would be absorbed by the expense of having to support the platform independent of the bulkhead. Also, given the close proximity of the house to the water, the double bulkhead as it is now constructed provides an additional layer of protection needed during inclement weather and freezing temperatures. Repairs in kind, in place can be made with the Grandfather Permit for a wood deck, float and bulkhead. The following conditions are required under Chapter 97 of the Town Code: Use of lumber treated with chromated copper arsenate("CCA") is prohibited for use in sheathing and decking. The use of tropical hardwoods is prohibited unless it is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or similar organization. All bulkhead re-construction requires a permanent non-turf buffer. Installation of a silt boom that will retain all suspended sediments within the immediate project area.
