Mr. Hobson spoke in behalf of the Fishers Island Civic Association_ on the new bridge connecting Long Island and Connecticut. He said the majority of the Fishers Island Civic Association was against the bridge as it would destroy the atmosphere of the Island if Fishers Island was connected and suggested that the engineers bypass Fishers Island in the project. Mr. Ferguson spoke on behalf of the Long Island Sound Protective Committee stating that they were against any, bridge for the end of Long Island. Mr. Simmons spoke against the bridge and suggested the engineers consider an improved ferry service o4instead of the bridge. A resident suggested one more man be added to the Highway Department to keep the streets a little cleaner. Another resident complimented Mr. Price, Supt. .of Highways, on the roads on Fishers Island. Meeting recessed at 2: 30 P.M. At the close of the meeting all were invited to the Legion Hall for a light lunch ad coffee which was served by the ladies of Fishers Island. A rising vote of thanks was given to the ladies for their kind hospitality. Meeting. was reconvened at 5: 30 P.M. aboard the boat ."TEX" . No further business was brought before the meeting. Richmond Town Clerk A special meeting of the Southold Town Board was held at the Town Clerk Office, Southold, New York, on Wednesday, September 4, 1 963, the members of the Board having waived notice of the time, place and purpose of the meeting. The meeting was called to order by the Super- visor, Lester M. Albertson, at 1: 00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. 232 Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Clark; WHEREAS THE County of Suffolk proposes to dredge certain areas �of STERLING BASIN in the Town of Southold which dredging will be per formed by County owned dredging equipment at a nominal cost to the- Town of Southold, and WHEREAS, in order to accomplish said dredging, plans, specifications, agreements and other documents must be executed on behalf of the Town of Southold, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; That the Supervisor be and he. hereby is authorized to execute, on behalf of the Town of Southold, all nec- essary plans and specifications, spoil area. agreements, assurances- - to the County of Suffolk, license and/or dredging permit applications to Federal and State Agencies an d all other documents that may be required to accomplish saJA dredging word. Vote of Town Board: Ayes- Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Councilman Grathwohl; seconded by Councilman Demarest; WHEREAS, the County of - Suffolk owns and operates a dredge and other equipment suitable for dredging channels and depositing fill on des- ignated areas, and WHEREAS, the Town of Southold has requested that the said dredge be used in connection with the dredging of STERLING BASIN, Town of Southold, as shown on the accompanying maps and specifications, and WHEREAS, the Supervisor of the Town of Southold by resolution duly adopted by the -Town Board of the said Town of Southold has been authorized and directed to sign for and on behalf of the Town- of Southold assurances to the County of Suffolk that the said Town of Southold will perform all acts required to-be performed by said Town in connection with the preparation for the dredging operation as aforesaid and obtaining of all necessary easements and rights of way for said dredging operation and use �of areas indicated on the attach- ed map for spoil areas together with all necessary rights incidental to said dredging operation, NOW, THEREFORE, ift5=consideration of the benefits to the Town of Southold, as aforesaid, the Town of Southold hereby assures the County of Suffolk that it will (a) Furnish, free of cost to the County of Suffolk, all lands, . ease- men ts, rights of way and spoil disposal areas necessary for the new work and subsequent maintenance when and if required for :the dredging operation at STERLING BASIN all as shown on the attached map, and (b) Hold and save the County .of Suffolk free from any claims or damages resulting from said improvement or resulting in any way from the said dredging operation or the use of equipment at the said STERLING BASIN- or use of any spoil area or any other affected by said dredging operation.
