HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-09/04/1962 MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 4, 1962. 10, 9- The Southold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Lester M. Albertson, at Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, September 4, 1962. The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Supt. of Highways Price; Town Attorney Tasker and Town Clerk Richmond. Moved' by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice' Clark; RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of August 21, 1962 be and they hereby Ire duly approved. Vote ofTown Board: - Ayes-Supervisor Albertson;_ Councilmen .'Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of the Town Board will be held -'at the Supervisor ' s Office, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, September 18, 1962 at 3:00 P.M. Vote ofTown Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen . Terry, Building Inspector, for the month of August be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. RESOLVED: � That the report of Supervisor Albertson for the month of August be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Richmond, Town Clerk, for the month of August, be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Moved by Councilman Grathwohl; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the reports of Southold Town Police and Bay Constables for the month of August be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Moved by ,Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark; RESOLVED: That the report of Ralph P. Co$, Dog Warden, for the month of August be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Several interested residents of the Town appeared before the Town Board I seeking 'information on the Town taking over the Village Police Force. I Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justine Clark; WHEREAS, Fishers Island Ferry District Commissioners request the approval of hiring John Picket as Clerk to the Fishers Island District, and WHEREAS, the Town Board wishes to know the duties of the clerk, NOW, ' THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Supervisor Albertson request the Fishers Island Ferry District to furnish the Town Board with a Duty Statement of the Clerk' s job. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Demarest; WHEREAS, the Lutheran Church has applied to the Town Board for permission to run a 2=inch plastic water main along Town property, .Greenport, N.Y. and WHEREAS, the Supt. of Highways has no objection to said water main, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Lutheran Church be given permiss- ion to lay said water main along Town Highway, Greenport, N.Y. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Albertson;Demarest;Grathwohl;Tuthill and Clark. 110 Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark; RESOLVED: That .the Supervisor be and ,he hereby ,is authorized to commun- icate with the State Traffic Commission and request "a survey of Beckwith Avenue, Southold, N.Y, relative to the possibility of changing the One Way Street to OUT instaad of IN, due to the new traffice light being installed at Youngs Avenue and Main Road, Southold, .N.Y. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supeervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved :by. Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That Bond No. 73S-1746, issued by the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company in the name of Edward Stanley Brush in the sum of $4000.00 be and the same is hereby approved as to its form, manner of .'execution , and. sufficiency of sureties therein. Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark; RESOLVED: That Bond No. 73S-1747, issued by the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company in the name. of James P. Mellas in the sum of:$4000.00 be and the same is hereby .approved as to its form, manner of execution and sufficiency of sureties therein. Vote of -Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman. Demarest; WHEREAS, A PETITION WAS RECEIVED FROM PROPERTY-OWNERS ON Bowery Lane, Southold, N.Y. for a change of name of .said lane:.:, to .-A-kerly Pond Road, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the petition be turned over to the Highway Committee for study. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. .Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark;. WHREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold has been, advised that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Greenport comtemplates the abolishment of their Police Department, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the Town of Southold assume the duties of policing the areas within the .Incorp- orated Village of Greenport as, if and when the said -Village of ; Greenport Police Department is abolished. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark . Moved by Justice .Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Grathwohl; RESOLVED: That .the Town Clerk of the Town of Southold be and he hereby is directed to request the Long -Island Lighting Company to install - one (1) 100 cp overhead street light on- NYT Pole #56 on the corner of Cox Neck Road and Westphalia Rd. , in. the Mattituck Lighting District #1, Mattituck, N.Y. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amount of $4,525 .91; Lighting District Bills in the amount of $2,635.97 and Fishers Island Ferry District Bills in the amount of $10, 793 .80 be and the same are.hereby ordered paid. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and .Clark. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the Supt. of Highways be authorized to advertise-.and purchase from the lowest -bidder 100 tons. of Rock Salt. Vote .of Town Board:- Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest., and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clack: Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark; RESOLVED: That -Irving L. Price, Jr. be retained as Special Town Attorney to represent the Town cbn the matter of the claim of Henry Zabohanski .of Fishers Island, N.Y. against the Town of Southold and the Supt. of Highways, Harold Price. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Councilmen Grathwohl; WHEREAS, Edwin H. King by petition verified on. June 25, 1962 petitioned the Town Board for a' change of zone of certain property described in said petition, from "A0l Residential and''-Agr.fcultural District to "B" Business District, and WHEREAS, the said petition was referred to the Planning Board for its official recommendation and report, and WHEREAS, the Planning Board has . filed its official report with the Town Board, and WHEREAS, the Town Board, pursuant to due notice thereof, held a hearing on said petition on- August 28, 1962, at which time all interested persons were given an opportunity to be heard, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.: That the relief demanded in said petition of Edwin H.
