HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-07/24/1962 MEETING OF JULY 24, 1962 The Southold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Lester M. Albertson, at Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, July 24, 1962. The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen .Dem_arest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Supt. of Highways Price; Town Attorney Tasker and Town Clerk Richmond.. Moved by Justice Clarks. seconded .by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of July 10, 1962 be and they hereby are duly approved. Vote of Town Board: Ayes Supervisor *Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Jutices Tuthill and Clark Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman'Demarest; RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of .the Town Board will be held at the Supervisor' s Office, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, August 7, 1962 at 3:00 P.M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor -Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Councilman Grathwohl; 'seconded by Justice Clark; WHEREAS, Mrs Wayland Jefferson has offered " to the Town of Southold a set of historical books for the sum of $200.00, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Tawn of Southold buy said historical books at the sum of $200.00. Vote-of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; councilmen .Demarest and Grathwohl;, Justices Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Grathwohl; WHEREAS, Southold Development Corporation has made written application to the Town Board dated the 28th day of November, 1961 to dedicate cert • ain highways at Southold, N.Y. Town of Southold to be 'known as CLEARVIEW AVE. WEST, GARDINERS LANE, BENNETT LANE, CUSTER AVE. , CLEARVIEW AVE. and WILLOW POND uANE-,, being more fully described in said petition, together with releases executed by the owners thereof, arid .• WHEREAS,' the' Highways Supt. has inspected said highways and has advised the Town Board that said proposed highways complye n all respects with the specifications for the dedication of highways in• the Town of Southold, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That in accordance with Section 171 of. • the Highway Law of the State of New York consent be and the same is here- by given to the Supt. of Highways to make an order laying out. the afore- said highways to consist of lands described' in said application and shown on certain maps attached 'to said application, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is- author ' ized and directed to forthwith cause the dedication and release to be recorded in the office of the Clerk of County o6 Suffolk, N.Y. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the Town of Southold approves the action of the Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District in engaging Mildred Dixon and Clarence Dixon to work at Elizabeth Airport, effective June 7, 1962 for the summer season, Clarence Dixon to be paid' $1'.50 per hour and Mildred Dixon to be paid $1.25 per hour . Moved by Councilman Grathwohl; seconded by Justice Tuthill: WHEREAS, - THE Town Board of Southold wishes to extend the boundaries. of the Cutchogue Lighting District in said Town, and WHEREAS, the Town Board of' the Town of Southold believes the extension of the Cutchogue Lighting District is in the public interest, it is RESOLVED: that the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) ,Dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated to pay the cost of preparing a general map' of the area to be- included in the Cutchogue Lighting District, including - legal and engineering services in connection therewith. 'Moved by Justice Clark; seconded -by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That this Town Board favors the installation of a Jetty at Goldsmiths' Inlet, ' Peconic, Suffolk County, New York, and that Supervisor Albertson notify the Army Engineers of their approval of said project. Super visor' Albertson was requested to declare August 11; 1962 as Histor- ical Day dedicating the Old House in Cutchogue as an Historical Monument. Recess at 4:30 P.M. Reconvened at 7:30 P.M. `Moved` by Justice Tuthill; seoonded by Councilman- Grathwohl; IN THE MATTER OF' THE EXTENSION OF THE MATTITUCK 'LIGHTING DISTRICT NO. 1 IN THE TOWN OF SOUTHOLD,,. COUNTY OF SUFFOLK; STATE OF NEW YORK, PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 12A OF THE TOWN LAW. WHEREAS, ' a map or plan relating 'to the proposed extension of the Mattituck Lighting 'District No. 1 prepared by Otto W. VanTuyl & Son, competent engineers and surveyors, duly licensed 'by the State of New York, in� the manner and in such detail as •has been determined by the Town Board of Southold Town; has been duly filed with the Town Clerk of the Town of Southold, in accordance with the requirements of Article 12A of ihe 'Town Law; and WHEERAS, "tan order was duly adopted by the Town Board of Southold Town on July loth, 1962, reciting -the filing of said map or plan, the .im provements proposed, the boundaries of the proposed district, the estim- ated expense thereof, the proposed method of financing, 'the fact that the map or plan describing the same are on file in the Town Clerk' s Office, for public inspection, and stating all other matters required by law to be stated, and specifying July 24th, 1962 at 7:30 P.M.., on that day as the time, -and' the Village Hall in the Village of Greenport in sa'id' Town as the place where the said Town Board would meet to consider said map or plan, and to hear all persons interested in the 'subject- thereof' concdrning 'the same and to take such action thereon as is',required or authorized by- law; and ` WHEREAS, such order was duly published and posted as required by law, and WHEREAS, ' a hearing on salid matter was duly held by said Town Board on this '24th day of July, 1962 beginning at 7:30 P.M, of that day at the Village._Hall in the Village of Greenport, in said Town, and full discussion of the matter having been had, and all persons desiring to be heard having been duly heard, NOW, upon the evidence given upon such 'hearing and upon motion of 'Justice Tuthill, seconded by Councilman Grathwohl, it is 1®2 RESOLVED AND DETERMINED: (a) TYat -the. notice'-of hearing was published, and posted .as required by, law, . and is otherwise sufficient. (b) That all'property and property ownersswithin the proposed district are-benefited thereby. (c) That all the property and property owners benefited are included.; within the limits of the proposed district (d) That it is in .the public interest to extend said -mattituckr..PZ�=Ak Lighting District, and it is FURTHER RESOLVED AND DETERMINED that the extension of the. boundaries .of the Mattituck Lighting District' No. 1 asset forth -in said map.be approved, and the improvements in said district -be installed upon the. -required funds being. made available and provided for; and such district shall be known and designated as the Mattituck Lighting District No.. .1..:in .the ,Town of Southold and shall be bounded and -described as follows: BEGINNING at the center line of Bay Avenue on the northerly shore of Great Re.cdit1,cBay, about 500 feet southerly from the southwesterly corner of the existing Mattituck Lighting District Not; running thence southwest- erly along said shibre line-about 1800 feet to the westerly line of land . of Husing and the northeasterly end-. of- the existing Mattituck :.Lighting District No. 11; thence northwesterly -.along the last described, li-ne.ato .,- , the center line of Great Peconic Boulevard; thence southwesterly along the center line of Great Peconic Bay Boulevard to the center. line. of Laurel Lane and the line between the Town- of- Riverhead and t1s Town of .Southold; thence northerly along .said Town line to Long Island Sound; thence north- easterly along Long Island. The boundaries. described are intended to incltide. all property -within said boundaries referred to and as shown in .the map on file in the .Town .Clerk's Office, and it is FURTHER RESOLVED that the method of financing said improvements consist of assessments levied on benefited real property within ,said district, and it is FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution is subject to a permissive, referen- ' dum as provided in Section.-209-E of the Town Law.
