The Southold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Lester M.
Albertson, at Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, June 26, 1962 . The meeting was
called to order at 3: 00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Albert-
son; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Town
Attorney Tasker; Supt . of Highways Price and Town Clerk Richmond.
Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Clark;
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of June 12, 1962 be and they here
by are duly approved.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and
Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Grathwohl;
RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of the Town Board will be held
at the Supervisor ' s Office, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday,
July 10, 1962 at 3: 00 P.M.
Vote of Town._Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and
Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and ,Clark.
At 3:00 P.M. in accordance with the notice published according to law, bids
were opened for proposals to furnish to the Town of Southold 300 landing
mats. Two (2) bids were submitted: James Homan $1490.00 and M. Bergen & Co.
$1245 .00.

its approval and report.

The Supervisor appointed Councilman Grathwohl and Councilman Demarest to .be
on a Committee with him to study STOP SIGNS on all roads in Southold Town.
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Grathwohl;
WHEREAS, the Suffolk County Charter has been recently amended to authorize
the creation of a District Court System in Suffolk County, and
WHEREAS, this legislation authorized a referendum in the Town of Southold
at the general election in November 1962 on the question of whether this
Town shall become a part of the District Court system, provided that the
Town Board adopts a resolution authorizing such submission at least one
hundred days before such election, and
WHEREAS, this Town Board deems it fitting and appropriate to grant the
voters of this Town the privilege of expressing their wishes on this matter
at the general election in November, 1962, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that this Town Board does hereby authorize and direct that there
be submitted to all of the electors of the Town of Southold at the general
election to be held November 6, 1962, including the ekutors within any in-
corporated village within the Township, the following proposition as con-
tained in Section 4107 of the Suffolk County Charter, as amended:
1 . Shall.''- the Town of Southold become a part of the Suffolk
District Court System?
2 . If the Town of Southold becomes a part of the Suffolk
County District Court System, shall the office of justice
of the peace be abolished within the Town?
AND .BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed
to forward forthwith a certified copy of this resolution to the Board of
Elections of the County of Suffolk.

WHEREAS, the required dedication and release have been duly received, map

NOW, THEREFORE, BE (IT RESOLVED::-- That the .,Tow,n ::Board accept these roads as
public highways.

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Lester M. Albertson be and he hereby is- author-
ized to enter into a lease with Elizabeth Olsen for a tract of land in-
cluding a bathing beach and parking field adjacent to Peconic Bay at. New
Suffolk in the Town of Southold, Suffolk county, New York, the sum not
to exceed $700.00 per year for a two year period.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Board: - f.�,the Town ofSouthold that -the Supervisor,
Lester M. Albertson, be and he is hereby authorized to execute for and in
behalf of the Town of Southold, a public entity established under the
laws of the State of New York, this application and to file it in the
appropriate State office for the purpose of obtaining certain Federal
financial assistance under the Federal Disaster Act (Hublic Law 87.5,
81st Congress;42 U. S.C. 1855-1855g) .

WHEREAS, residents of Goose Creek, Southold, N.Y. have requested the
Town Board to regulate the speed of boats in said Creek channel from the
Bridge to Goose Creek, Southold, N.Y. and ,
WHEREAS, the Town Board has investigated the boat operation in said creek
channel and is of the opinion that in the interest of safety the speed
of boats should be limited in said area,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That no person shall operate _a boat on
the waters of Goose Creek Channel, Southold, N.Y. at a. •speed greater
than five (5) miles per hour and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized_ to cause
notice of such speed limit to be posted in appropriate places in said
creek channel .

RESOLVED: That inasmuch as the required dedication and release have been
duly received, map of same duly filed and the necessary papers signed,
the Town Board take over and maintain as public highways School House
Road-Extension and Griffing Street, situated at Cutchogue, N.Y. , Town
of Southold, Suffolk County, N.Y.

Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark.

RESOLVED: That Henry M. Walsh and Eugene Dziek, Fishers Island, B.Y, be
appointed Special Bay Constables to police town waterways at Fishers
Island with no compensation from the Town.

Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark.

RESOLVED: That William Januick, New Suffolk, N.Y. be appointed a Special
Bay Constable to police Town waterways, compensation. to be $150.00 for
boat expenses and $450.00 salary for the summer months.

WHEREAS, Isadore Krupski has applied to the Town Board..for a single trailer
permit dated June 23, 1962,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the application of Isadore Krupski to
locate a single trailer on his property at Peconic, N.Y. be and hereby is
granted for year round occupancy for a one year period.

WHEREAS, the Beach Committee reported that the lowest bid on the 300
Landing Mats was submitted by M. Berger & Co. ,
RESOLVED: That Lester M. Albertson, Supervisor, be and he hereby is
directed to enter into a contract with M. Berger& Co, for the purchase
of 300 Landing Mats in accordance with bids submitted by M. Berger & Co.

RESOLVED: That Marion Griffin be engaged under contract to provide a
mail transfer and haulage service for the Fishers Island Ferry District
for a period from June 1, 1962 through December 31, 1963 inclusive,, in
accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract submitted by
the Board of Commissioners and be it further
RESOLVED: That the compensation for such service shall be one hundred
fifteen dollars ($115 .00) per month payable monthly.

WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #185, Greenport, N.Y. has
applied to the Town Clerk for a Bingo License, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board has examined the application and after investig-
ating the matter duly made findings and determinations as required by law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to execute on behalf of the Board the findings
and determintations required by law and it is further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed to issue a
Bingo License to the 'American Legion Auxiliary Unit #185 .

WHEREAS, the Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District wish to
enter into a bareboat charter for use of the MV Wankee with the Inter-
state Navigation Company for a period commencing at 7: 00 A.M. on June
4, 1962 and shall end at 7: 00 A.M. on June 6, 1962 at a lump sum payment
of $500.00 to cover the first two days charter and if the charterer
shall elect to continue the charter thereafter, he shall pay the owner
at the rate of $200.00 per day for each additional day or part thereof,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Board approves
of the action of the Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District
on entering into the contract as above stated with th& Interstate
Navigation Company.

RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized to commun-
icate with the State Traffic Commission and request the following:
1. That a maximum speed limit of 30 MPH be established on Bois'seau Ave . ,
Southold, Suffolk County, New York.
2 . That the present speed gone west of Cutchogue Village on Route 25 be
extended to Alvahs Lane, Cutchogue, N.Y.
3. That two solid white lines be placed across the road for a walking
area in front of the Southold Post Office, Southold, N.Y.
4. That two solid white lines be placed across the road foe a walking
area in front of the Mattituck Library, Mattituck, N.Y.
5 . That a solid white line be extended through the intersection of Indian
Neck Lane on Route 25, Peconic, N.Y. , and
6 . A survey of traffic at the monument at corner of Route 25 and Main
Street or Village Lane,

WHEREAS, a petition was received from Edward King requesting a change of
zone of certain property situated in Orient, N.Y. and more fully described
in said petition from "A" Residential and Agricultural District to "B"
Business District,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk of the Town of Southold
be and he hereby is directed to transmit this petition to the Planning
Board -in accordance with Section 901, Subdivision C of Article IV of the
Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold.

RESOLVED: That the amount of a Bond or Insurance Policy to the Town of
Southold for the issuing of a Fire Works Permit,rbe not less than $50, 000.

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Lester .M. Albertson be and he hereby is author-
ized to hire extra Life Guards at our Town Beaches.

WHEREAS, the Town Board on its own motion on April 24, 1962 recommended
a change of zone on certain property between Greenpor7t and Southold on the
south side of Route 25 from "A" Residential and A ricultural District to
"B" Business District, and
WHEREAS, the said petition was referred to the Planning Board for its
official recommendation and report, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board pursuant to due notice thereof, held a hearing
on said petition on June 26, 1962 at 7: 30 P.M. at which time all interested
persons were given an opportunity to be heard, minutes of which were taken
by Judith Boken,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Building Zone Ordin-
ance including the Building Zone Maps be amended by changing from "A" Res-
idential and AGricultural District to "B" Business District the following
described property":
ALL that certain tract or parcel of ,land situated at (wedt) Greenport, in
the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, and more particularly bound-
ed and described as follows: -
BEGINNING at the intersection of the southerly line of Main Road ' (route 25)
with the westerly line of Silvermere Road and running thence southeasterly-
along said westerly line of Silvermere Road 575 feet, more or less, to land
of the Long Island Railroad Company; thence in a general southwesterly direct-
ion along said land of the Long. Island Railroad, Company 5, 200 feet, more or
less, to Kerwin Boulevard; thence northwesterly along Kerwin Boulevard to
the southeasterly line of said Main Road (Route 250; thence in a general

WHEREAS, Robert Hertzberg has applied to the Town Board for a single
trailer permit dated June 13, 1962,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the application of Robert Hertzberg
to locate a single trailer on his property, Clark Road, Southold, N.Y. be
and hereby is granted for.year round occupancy for a one year period.
