THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION NO. 2026-634 WAS
ADOPTED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD ON
JULY 28, 2026:
WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold recognizes that clear, consistent,
accessible, and transparent communication is essential to maintaining public trust, encouraging
civic engagement, and ensuring residents have timely access to information regarding Town
services,programs, and initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the Town Board further recognizes that communication methods continue to evolve
and that the Town should regularly evaluate and improve its outreach strategies to better serve
residents and visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; and
WHEREAS, the Town Board finds that a Communications Committee will provide guidance and
recommendations to improve the Town's public communications while fostering collaboration
among departments and encouraging community engagement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Southold hereby
establishes the Southold Town Communications Committee; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Communications Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the
Town Board and shall be charged with evaluating and making recommendations regarding the
Town's communication strategies, including but not limited to:
• Identifying opportunities to improve public awareness of Town services, programs, meetings,
and notifications.
• Improving and coordinating the Town's social media presence.
• Improving the accessibility, organization, usability, and content of the Town's website.
• Recommending, supporting the implementation of, and managing modern communication
tools, including email newsletters, text message notifications, and other emerging methods of
public outreach.
• Recommending policies and best practices for public communication, branding, accessibility,
and digital engagement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Communications Committee shall consist of eleven
(11) members appointed by the Town Board, each serving a term of one (1) year, as follows:
• Town Clerk(to serve as Co-Chair)
• Government Liaison(to serve as Co-Chair)
• One representative from the Information Technology Department
• One representative from the Office of Emergency Management
• One representative from Human Services/Senior Services
• One representative from the Youth Bureau/Recreation Department
• One bilingual (English and Spanish speaking) community member or Town staff member
• Two community members with professional experience in communications, social media
management, graphic design,public relations, or a related field.
• Two Town Board liaisons, one of whom shall represent Fishers Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee shall meet as necessary to fulfill its
responsibilities, shall provide recommendations to the Town Board as appropriate, and with
Town Board approval, may coordinate with Town departments to support the implementation of
approved communication initiatives.
