The owner is proposing to convert eight (8) existing one-bedroom cottages into eight (8) two-bedroom cottages. In reviewing the historical engineering report prepared by Michael Chiarelli, P.E., of Huntington Station, NY, dated November 2012, it is noted that the current sewage disposal system was designed for eight units (each >1,200 sq. ft.) at a capacity of 300 gallons per day (GPD) per unit. That report also indicates that two-bedroom units require 220 GPD. Based on this information, it is clear that the system's original design capacity of 2,400 GPD (8 units x 300 GPD) is sufficient to accommodate the proposed conversion. The total projected wastewater load for the proposed eight two-bedroom cottages is 1,760 GPD (8 units x 220 GPD), resulting in an additional wastewater load of 880 GPD compared to the existing usage. As a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York (License No. 094477), I have reviewed the proposed changes and confirm that the existing system has adequate capacity to handle the increased load. Therefore, no upgrades to the existing sewer connection are necessary as a result of this proposed conversion.. Should you require any additional information or documentation, please do not hesitate to contact me: Sincerely, OF NEy, Ernesto Rosini, P.E. I i The average daily design flow for the proposed refurbishment of the Pump Station is derived as follows: i A. Sewage Flow—40' Pi Ae Minimum The existing force main is 4" diameter, approximately 1,400 feet long and terminates at the Greenport Sewage Treatment Plant. SCDHS standards require a i minimum velocity of 2 fps in the pipe at all times. Therefore, the minimum pumping rate is 78.17 gpm or 112,565 gpd as shown in the following calculation: 3 Q = V x A = 2 x .08725 f t2 = .1745 sec = 78.17 gpm soci B. The(GG)pump station was formally referred to as the San Simeon Sewage Pump Station was approved by tile-Town of Southold in 1984. The gravity sewage collection system;and pump station was approved by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (Reference No Cl M9-015) on December 1, 1985 for only eight (8) units. Permission to discharge sewage to the Village of Greenport Sewage Treatment Plant was granted to the owners(St.PetersLutheran Church),by the New York State Department of Conservation and the Village of Greenport As,6f:.July-1, 1990 die Village gave permission to the then owner of the property, San Simeon Properties Associates, permission to discharge 3,600 gals:/day of sewage into the Village collection system(the design flow of.the pinposed Phase I development). The current owners of the property and.pump station,'The Greenport,Group, LLC, indicate that.the original.,project approval has be rescinded, as the Town of Southold has up=zoned the.area for two ,(2) acre residential-development. Under the two (2) acre zoning requirement the; ievelopmcnt-potential:of the parcel. would be considerably reduced to about a total of twenty(20)residenrial iitiits, which in turn would significantly reduce the Amount of sewage required to be conveyed to the Village ofGreenpoti collection system. The site is generally flat with grades vary from a.high elevation of about28.,AMSL in the northern and westcm portions of the property to about 10 AMSL,along south cast portion. Surface drainage is generally south and southeast;towards un-drained areas of the properties, located,to the cast and south of the property. PM.Grosser Consulting, Inc• P.W.
