Dear Trustees:
My name is Ruth Jordan. I live-in a small cottage at 6145 Indian Neck Lane in Peconic with
approximately 60' of frontage on Richmond Creek. My neighbors on each side of me have
bulkheads but I have none and my shoreline is fast eroding. My next-door neighbor is building a
new house and offered me a small amount of leftover rip rap, about 35 pieces but no more
than 50 pieces, at no charge if removed by myself to help shore up my beach to conserve the
soil and plants that are already there, prevent further erosion and attempt to save my existing
stairs.
This effort would be undertaken by me personally; I don't have the financial resources to hire a
contractor or obtain the multitude of permits that would be required in the unlikely event this
activity rose to that level of construction. I am trying to protect my property and its value for
my 3 grown children.
I have attached photos with this request showing the stones and beach as is for the July 8 2026
Trustees visit to provide me guidance going forward. .
I can only remediate what I am allowed to do personally as a homeowner not required to be a
licensed contractor under Southold Town Code Article I General Provisions (B) Exceptions. No
License shall be required for the following: B (1) An Individual who engages in coastal
construction on his or her own residential property.
The best outcome for me and protection of the soil,vegetation and stairwell would be an ok to
proceed under Town of Southold Article I General Provisions (1)The provisions of this chapter
shall not require a permit for the following: (b)The ordinary and usual operations relative to
conservation of soil, vegetation,fish and wildlife landward of the wetland boundary.
