HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-03/08/1960 MEETING OF MARCH 8, 1960. The Southold Town Board met attle office of Supervisor Henry Tuthill at Greenport, on Tuesday, March 8, 1960. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Tuthill; Councilman .Albertson; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Supt. of -Highways Price; Town Attorney Tasker and Town Clerk Richmond. The Boad sat at once as a committee on audit to examine claims against the- Town. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of February 16, 1960, . be and they hereby are duly approved as read. Vote of Town Board: .Ayes-Super visor Tuthill; Councilman Albertson; Justices Tuthill and Clark.- At 2:00 P.M. the Supervisor opened the public hearing authorized pursuant to a resolution of this Board adopted on the 16th day . of February, 1960, on the application of George G. Bailey for a change of zone from "A" Resident441 and Agricultural District to "B" Business District, of certain property situate at Cutchogue, New York, as described in said petition-.-. The minutes of the hear- ing were recorded by Judith Boken. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: WHEREAS, George G. Bailey, by petition verified the 25th day of January, 1960, petitioned the Town Board for a change of Zonec-of . certain real prpperty described in said petition from "A" Res- idential and Agricultural District to "B" Business District, and WHEREAS, the said petition was referred to the Planning Board for its official recommendation and report, and WHEREAS, THE Planning Board has filed its official report with the Town Board, and WHEREAS, the Town Board pursuant to due notice thereof, held a hearing on said petition on March 8, 1960, at which time all interested persons were given an opportunity to be heard, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: ,That 'the Southold Town Building Zone Ordinance, including the Southold Town Building Zone Maps, be amended by changing from "A" Residential and Agricultural District to "B" Business District the following described property: ALL that certain tract or parcel of land situated at Cutchogue, in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County,- New York, and more particularly bounded and described as follows: Beginning at a point on the southerly line of the Main Road (Route 25) said point being the northwesterly corner of the parcel herein described and the northeasterly corner of lands now cr formerly of Oscar Silleck on the southerly line of said road; thence from said point of beginning running southerly by and with said lands now or formerly of Oscar Silleck ten (10) rods to land now or formerly of' Daniel V. Howell; thence, easterly, by and with the said . land now or formerly of Daniel .V. Howell four (4) rods; thence northerly by and with the . lands now or formerly of Daniel V. Howell ten (10) rods to southerly line of' said road, and thence westerly along the southerly line of said road four (4) rods to the point or place of beginning. Containing about one quarter of an acre. Be it further RESOLVED: that the Town Clerk be and hereby is authorized and directed to post and publish notice of the adoption of this amendment as required by law. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Councilman Albertson; Justices Tuthill and Clark. 7 Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: WHEREAS, the Town of Southold by deed dated April 16, 1959 and recorded in the Suffolk County Clerk' s Office in Liber 4614 of Deeds at Page 296 acquired title to property at Fishers Island in: the Town of Southold from the United States of America, said property being fully described in said deed and { WHEREAS,, by resolution of the Town Board adopted on. April 21, 1959, the Town Board- delegated jurisdiction, control and supervision of said property to the Board of Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 620 of the laws of 1951, and WHEREAS, the said Board of Commissioners of the Fishers Island : Ferry District has requested that a portion of the said premises be placed in the "B" Business District, and ,WHEREAS, the Town Board. has given consideration to this. mat.ter and believes that it would be in the best interests of the Town of Southold that all of the property acquired by the Town of .Southoldfrom the United States of America at Fishers Island be placed in a "B" Business District, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the Southold Town Clerk be and he hereby is authorized and directed: to instruct the. „ Southold. Town Planning Board by a written. request to prepare an official report defining the conditions and determine the area affected with their recommendations on the question of the Town Board's proposal to amend the Southold Town Building Zone Ordin- ance and Building Zone Maps by placing the property hereinafter described in the "B" Business District, to wit'.:; ALL those certain tracts, pieces or parcels of land situate, lying and being at Fishers Island, in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, generally bounded and described as follows:. Halsey Brown appeared before the Town Board suggesting that the Town investigate the possibility of obtaining land between Chapel and Moare Lane, now owned by Greenport Village, for public park and recreational purposes. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: WHEREAS, Walter C. Grabie has, by application verified the- 4th- day of December, 1958, made application to the Town 'Board for - the establishment of an Open Development Area of certain property at Lupton' s Point, Mattituck, N.Y..more .fully described in said' application, pursuant to the provisions of Section 280-A of the Town Law, and WHEREAS,';, the Town Board has heretofore referred the matter to the Planning Board for its advice and recommendation, and -WHEREAS, the Planning Board has by report dated the 18th day of February, 1960, and filed. with- the Town Board;. )(&$ recommended that the application of Walter C. Grabie be granted, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the Town of Southold does hereby establish an Open. Development Area over . the property. of Walter C. Grabie as shown' on the map attached' to the application and entitled "Proposed layout ,of land of Walter C. Grabie located at. Lupton' s Point, Mattituck, N.Y. surveyed by Otto W. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED:- That salaries of the following persons be and hereby are . fixed as follows: ' Stenographer for Justice, part time, Barbara Andrade-$2.00 per hr. Cleaner, part time, 'Annie Norman-$1.25 per hr. Sbhool Crossing Guard, part time, Frederick Marcell - $7 .00 per day, at Southold, Greanport, and Mattituck, $6.00 per day at other school crossings. Police Patrolmen (Constables) part time -$18.50 per day. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Councilman Albertson; Justices of. Peace Tuthill and Clark. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That Supervisor Henry Tuthill be and. he hereby is . authorized and directed to advertise for bids on 100,000 gallons of gas for Town purposes, said bids to be opendd at 7:00 P.M. on March 24, 1960, at the Town Clerk' s' Office in Southold, N.Y. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of the Town Board be held at the office of the Supervisor, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, March 22, 1960, at 1:30 P.M. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill: WHEREAS';. -under Section 148 of the Education Law, the Town is author- ized to expend monies for 'historical purposes, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor ig hereby direct- ed to pay the sum of $500.00 to the Oyster Ponds Historical Society 276 for historical purposes. RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed to .rescind the order of January .26, 1960, to install one c p aerial street light on Pole #4 on L'Hommedieu Lane, Southold Lighting District, and request the Long Island Lighting Company to - install two (2) 100 c p aerial street lights as per sketch of the Long Island Lighting Company of. March 1, 1960, one on Pole #19, corner of Hobart Road .and L'Hom- medieu Lane and one on Pole #5, corner of L'Hommedieu Lane .and Locust Lane.
