Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes for April 27, 2026
Location: Town Annex Building, Lower Level (4:00 P.M.)
Present: Jack (Chairperson), Alexa (Town Board Liaison), Amanda, Brent, Rich,
George, Paul, Jenna Scherzmann (Guest), Alexa Annunziata (Guest), Brian (Town
Board Member), Elizabeth (Secretary)
Absent/Excused: Brian, Jennifer, Lucine (resigned)
Call to Order: Chairperson Jack called the meeting to order at 4:07 P.M.
Guest Presentation – “Skip the Stuff” Campaign:
Jack introduced guest speakers Jenna Scherzmann and Alexa Annunziata, who
presented the “Skip the Stuff” initiative. This national campaign is aimed at
business owners, particularly restaurants, encouraging them to reduce
unnecessary items included in takeout orders (such as plastic utensils etc.) The
initiative is intended to reduce costs for businesses while also minimizing
environmental impact.
Synergy Summits: Shelved until 2027. Need to discuss at the next meeting.
Committee never voted on this decision.
Event Calendar: Transitioned to Lisa, Melissa, and Rosemary. Northfork
Promotional Council will oversee.
Incubator: Tabled till the next meeting along with the MIT Venture Project.
Organizational Document: Rich will have a draft for the meeting.
Business Directory: Paul coordinating with Chambers; will have a draft prepared
for the next meeting.
Business Statistics: George pointed to an imbalance of businesses, too much of
one and not enough of others; useful for the zoning updates.
Discussion Items:
Possible idea of a survey for businesses of concerns, ideas and helpful
suggestions of what the needs are. Leverage the current Communications Survey
too. It was suggested for this to be done bilingual in English and Spanish.
Meeting Frequency: Discussion of two meeting a month and what is the need for
that. There will only be one meeting for the month of May to be held on May 11,
2026.
Upcoming Meetings: LIA meeting Sept 18, 2026 (Southampton). Paul, Brent,
Brian attending May 7, 2026 at Southampton Inn.
Recent Meetings: North Fork Coalition (April 26, 2026); Supervisor Krupski (April
23, 2026). The meetings focused on ADU’s (housing), Battery Energy Storage,
Land Use and Rental Enforcement.
Zoning Update: Committee to prepare ideas and give suggestions.
New Business:
Business Guide: Draft presented by Alexa; feedback requested.
Committee Membership: Lucine resigned.
Meeting Notes: No appointment of a new secretary; Amanda volunteered to take
notes at the next meeting. (May 11, 2026)
Adjournment: Meeting closed at 5:24 P.M. and entered Executive Session.
