Meeting Purpose
The EDC Committee designed this leadership-focused event to bring together organizations
that support the vitality of the community. The objectives of this meeting were knowledge
sharing, identifying community needs, and developing an action plan aimed at economic
stability.
Opening Remarks
Chairperson Jack Malley opened the meeting with an introduction.
Supervisor Al Krupski provided a zoning update, announcing the release of documents for
public review.

Several attendees commented on the overlapping goals and missions represented in the
room. There was a strong call for the creation of a central event calendar to prevent
duplication and improve collaboration. Participants were encouraged to actively support
and work with the EDC.

Summary
Zoning Update and Community Input
Al Krupski welcomed guests from the local town and thanked the Economic Development
Commi?ee for their work. He discussed the zoning update, emphasizing that it's a work in
progress and the community's input is crucial. He men?oned a new website that will be up and
running by the end of the day to explain the process and provide forms for public input. Al also
encouraged a?endees to visit the bank building to review the zoning map and seek help from
planning staff. He then handed over to Jack for further discussion.
Local Organiza?ons and Business Collabora?on
The mee?ng involved various local organiza?ons and businesses discussing their ini?a?ves and
collabora?ons. Jack, represen?ng the Economic Development Commi?ee, outlined their plans
for quarterly energy synergy summits, zoning updates, and a business resource pla?orm. Paul
Romanelli, owner of Security Systems, discussed the Long Island Hospital Founda?on's major
events and the poten?al for business par?cipa?on. Caroline Macarthur, director of the
Southfield Library, proposed a program offering discounts to local retailers with a library card.
Judy McCleary, Chamber of Commerce President, highlighted the organiza?on's efforts in
represen?ng businesses and promo?ng community engagement. Maria McBride, represen?ng
Slow Food East End, discussed their interna?onal grassroots movement and their efforts in
promo?ng local food producers. The Long Island Associa?on's Dave Fa?zzo introduced their
advocacy for the Long Island region and their plans to bring their organiza?on to Eastern Long
Island. Terry McShane, with the Ma?tuck Chamber of Commerce, discussed their 47th Annual
Street Fair and their plans for future events. Nicki, a career and transi?on coordinator at
Southold Union Free School District, men?oned the North Fork School Business Advisory and
their desire to add more local businesses to their mailing list.
Youth Engagement and Economic Development Strategies
Nicki discussed the importance of connec?ng youth from local schools to businesses in the
community, with a focus on job fairs and internships. She also men?oned the upcoming job
shadow day and the involvement of students in town commi?ees. Amanda Giuliano,
emphasized the need for efficiency in the remaining half of the mee?ng. Stacy Black, from
Discover Long Island highlighted their role in promo?ng tourism and economic growth, offering
assistance in agricultural tourism, heritage tourism, workforce development, and advocacy.
Mark Riesenfeld from the Orient Associa?on discussed informing and educa?ng their
membership. Brentz Roberts from North Fork Authen?c discussed their mission to empower the
community for economic sustainability, and Michael Daly from True North Associates shared his
involvement in the Long Regional Economic Development Councils and his focus on human
infrastructure.
Local Organiza?ons Share Upcoming Events
Jennifer introduced the South Old Historical Museum's new execu?ve director, Darren St.
George, who shared upcoming events including a burger and beer event, a pickleball
tournament, and line dancing. Melissa Rockwell from the Long Island Wine Council discussed
their mission to advance the image of Long Island wines and their upcoming events, including a
Long Island locals campaign, a 5K run, and a Legacy dinner. Sheila Kelly from the Supreme Court
Civic Associa?on highlighted their focus on educa?on and policy issues, and their upcoming full
member mee?ng. Roger Sta?c from the Royal Board of the Moose discussed their mission to
serve the community and support children's and senior organiza?ons, and their upcoming
events including a duck race and October Festus.
New Suffolk's Challenges and Future Plans
Jennifer discussed the challenges faced by New Suffolk, including a hollowing out of the
community, increasing traffic, and a need for year-round businesses. She emphasized the
importance of coastal resilience and water quality improvement. Jennifer also highlighted the
need for walkable hamlets and economic development. John McLean, the Board President of a
50-year-old arts organiza?on, shared their plans for a strategic review and poten?al future
opera?ons. Phil Angelo, owner of the Oyster Pond Shellfish Company, discussed the challenges
faced by the oyster farming industry, including inspec?ons and the need for support from the
community.
Women's Entrepreneurship and Community Development
The mee?ng featured brief introduc?ons from various a?endees represen?ng different
organiza?ons and roles. Jennifer, the founder of Web, an organiza?on for women's
entrepreneurial business, spoke about her organiza?on's mission and structure. Mary Galecki,
represen?ng the East Marion Community Associa?on, discussed their efforts to protect the
rural, agricultural, and residen?al character of their area. The Mount Tech World Civic
Associa?on, led by Jennifer, celebrated its 10th anniversary and offered scholarships. The State
Civic Associa?on, another smaller group, was also men?oned. The audience was encouraged to
share their iden??es and par?cipate in an open discussion. Key topics renewable energy,
government policies, and the need for housing and business development on the North Fork.
Fostering Collabora?on Among Local Businesses
The mee?ng focused on fostering collabora?on and resource sharing among local businesses
and organiza?ons. The a?endees discussed the challenges of event planning and the need for a
central events calendar to avoid conflicts. They also discussed the importance of partnerships
and the poten?al for local businesses to collaborate on larger events. The conversa?on ended
with plans for the next mee?ng in July and the crea?on of a list of a?endees for future
collabora?on.
