The response to Mr. Boufis' query and the justification for the connector bracket is as follows: The purpose of the prefabricated Simson, or equal, rafter connector at the ridge beam is to reduce the possibility, and probability, of the roof from being split apart or lifting at the center from internal wind pressure as well as the positive verse negative external wind pressure due to high winds. In essence, the connector aids in maintaining the ridge and rafter connector as a single compression unit when upward pressure creates a positive pressure at the interior of the attic or roof framing. This "device" does not eliminate the collar tie which serves a similar but different static load transfer device and is therefore not redundant. In closing, I trust that the information contained within this July 2, 2003 issuance is self explanatory and will satisfy Mr. Boufis' query. Should you or Mr. Boufis have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me accordingly. Respectfully submitted, Stephen L. Cohan, V.P. Richter, Engineering Subject: Summitt Estates — Section II & III Date: February 10, 2003 The utilities have been installed and the RCA Road Base is under construction. As per our previous conversations, the placement of RCA Base material began in the northern most Cul-De-Sac at the end of !unc. The RCA Road Base should be completed in the near future, weather permitting. Approximately 80% of the Base has been placed & graded and is considered suitable for accessibility. The contractor assures me that construction traffic would not prohibit the final grading and placement of any additional RCA. I have reviewed this matterwith the Planning Board and the Board has no objection to the issuing of Building Permits. At this time, it is the recommendation of the Engineering Department that all of the lots within this subdivision should be considered open for building permits. ;Rleasb Note: Access to construction of homes within this subdivision should be exclusively from Gus Drive and not through the existing residential neighborhood along Marina Lane. At this time, I would ask your help with giving out a reminder of this to all permit applicants when each permit is issued. cc: Planning Board Young & Young N 400 Ostrander Avenue, Riverhead, New York 11901 P 631-727-2303 P` Alden.
