Subject: Request for Speed Limit Reduction in Fairway Farms Southold Town Clerk
Dear Mr.Noncarrow,
I am writing on behalf of the Fairway Farms Homeowners Association to formally request a
reduction in the posted speed limit on Fairway Drive and Path Way in Cutchogue. Speeding has
been an ongoing concern in our community and was a major topic of discussion at our annual
meeting this November. The current speed limit of 30 mph is too high for our residential area,
and we urge you to consider lowering it to 25 mph.
The roads in Fairway Farms are heavily utilized by children, families, and pets.In addition to
neighborhood residents, many members of the surrounding community like to walk, jog and
cycle in our neighborhood.Drivers often exceed the speed limit, creating a serious risk of
accidents. An increased volume of large and heavy vehicles such as school buses, delivery
trucks, work trucks and service vehicles makes the roads feel unsafe at the current speed.
We believe lowering the speed limit is critical to improve public safety and quality of life in our
neighborhood.Attached are the results of a survey completed by 30 out of 32 homeowners who
are in favor of lowering the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.
We request that the Town Board pass a resolution to have the area speed limit reviewed by the
NYSDOT. If you would like to discuss the matter fiu-ther,I can be reached at 631-734-2914.I
look forward to your response.Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Lynn Leaden,President
On behalf of Fairway Farms Association,Inc.

We,the residents of Fairway Farms, are concerned about drivers using excessive speed on our roads. We
want our neighborhood to feel safe for the growing number of families with young children as well as
residents walking dogs, riding bikes, and pushing strollers. With public safety in mind, the association
would like to take the necessary steps to reduce the speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

Al Krupski
Dear Supervisor Krupski,
I saw a while ago an article in the Suffolk Times about reducing the
speed on the North Road.
Enclosed is a copy of a letter I wrote to Suffolk County on May 7, 2023
about that stretch of road. I enclosed a nice map of where each sign was
located but have since discarded it.
Earlier I wrote to the same Director about the speed limit on the Causeway
which she acknowledged and said she would forward it to the State as that is
Rte. 25 and is their responsibility. She did do that and the State did send
someone out soon and they reduced that speed from 50 to 40 MPH for the
short distance.
I guess, then asking for too much, I never did get a response to change the
17 signs on the North Road between the double highway and Greenport.
Just adding this to any request going forward in trying to make that stretch
of road safer.
Thanks for all you do.

Department of Public Works
Niamh Perotta
Director of Traffic Safety
Dear Niamh Perrotta,
REQUESTING A SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION FROM 50 MPH TO 45 MPH.
40 MPH would even be better.
Thank you so very much for forwarding my letter to the New York State Department
of Transportation regarding a request for a speed reduction on a part of the North Road,
Rte 48, that is under their jurisdiction (their Rte 25). Thankfully they have approved the
changing of two 50 MPH signs to 40 MPH. Enclosed is an article in the Suffolk Times
as many people I talk to are so thankful as we feel it will help save lives.
Now after that success I am writing to you regarding the section of Rte 48, (Middle
Road) between Moores Lane in Greenport (45 MPH on the East side of Moores Lane)
and the double Highway in Southold where the speed limit is 55 MPH. It is a single
lane road in each direction with many entrances and exits off of it. There are eight (8)
50 MPH signs in the Westbound direction, and nine (9) in the Eastbound direction that
hopefully could be reduced.
One short section has 40 MPH limits in front of the Southold Town Beach. The rest is
50 MPH.
As you leave the double lane 55 MPH going east to Orient it becomes 50 MPH on
single lanes in each direction. You first encounter doctors offices on the right (SS) , and
other offices, and a Taco restaurant, and other business on the left (NS). After Young's
Avenue there are two busy shopping malls (strip malls) with a propane company on the
NS. The exit from the NS shopping mall is tough as there is a curve on the east side and
speeding cars appear out of no where it seems. As we go east past the short 40 MPH
zone near the Southold Town Beach there is the busy Soundview Motel and restaurant
(NS) with parking on the southside. Next is Cliffside condominiums across the street
from San Simeon Nursing home. Then comes a new Motel Morine across the street from
a new Vineyard View apartment complex. (tough for school buses coming out of their
driveway). There are many driveways of private homes along with Inlet Point County
Park .
Many of these locations senior citizens are driving to. It is scary trying to enter the
busy road as cars go by at 50 MPH plus. It is just scary to be stopped on the side of the
road as the speeding cars go by.
The bike lanes on both sides are used by many bike riders, runners and walkers.
Especially now in the Spring, Summer and Fall. There are no side walks.
I know of five fatalities over the years on this stretch of road. Two pedestrians
crossing at the Soundview Motel, The owners of the Sunset Motel's son exiting in his
car, (now the new Motel Moraine) (a tough had to see cars curve at the east), a young
girl a few years ago in an accident at Chapel Lane and an Oriental woman and many
hurt one Sunday morning after visiting the Lavender Farm in East Marion.
Again, thank you so very much for passing on the letter regarding the East
Marion/Orient Ce6'90.Way signs. They were only (2) two signs that have to be changed.
I am so grateful they looked at it and are making the change.
I am asking for t7 (50 MPH) signs to be reduced. The post are there. Just the signs
being changed to a lower speed limit will reduce accidents and save lives.
I hope that you can have this busy section of Rte 48, (Middle Road, The North Road,)
looked at and changes made.
Enclosed is a copy of a map of the roadway.
Thank you so very much.
Sincerely,
Bob Hulsmann
