Gerard gave the public that was attending the meeting the opportunity to discuss the reason for their attendance prior to the beginning of our discussion of our agenda. The three women were all residents of Laurel Links, and wanted to voice their concerns about the large amount of trees that are being taken down (on private property within their community). Both Dave and Gerard explained the general "mission" of our Committee, advising them that we are involved with the planting of trees on Town property and have no involvement/jurisdiction as a Committee with private properties. The women were extended the invitation of staying for the remainder of the meeting, but they chose to leave. Gerard reported that 82 trees were planted this Fall with 11 Zelcova trees going to the Town landfill (Phase 1). Gerard requested that the Committee provide him with some feedback to come up with a better plan on how we as a group can help to find locations in 2026 for future plantings and stressed that we need more participation toward our goal. Derek will pick up the Arbor Day posters which will be ready at the participating schools on February 6. We will judge the posters at our February 25 meeting. Diane will make arrangements for the Fishers Island posters to get to us. The numbers of children in each participating school grades were put together. We will put together orders for the pencils, activity sheets, seedlings. Committee lightly discussed the possibility of having to increase the price of our memorial trees. We will next meet on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 Submitted, Diane DiSalvo, Secretary
