HomeMy WebLinkAboutEstablishment RESOLUTION 2023-208 ADOPTED DOC ID: 18920 THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION NO. 2023-208 WAS ADOPTED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD ON FEBRUARY 14, 2023: Whereas, the Town Board of the Town of Southold adopted Resolution 2023-164 setting a public hearing to consider a local law in relation to a temporary moratorium on the issuance of approvals and or permits for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities to be held on March 14, 2023; and Whereas, the Town recognizes that BESS facilities are key component to the viability and promotion of renewable energy sources; and Whereas, in order to craft town code that will establish the criteria for future siting, site design, safety requirements and all other elements necessary for the proper consideration of such facilities, the Town Board desires to establish a task force to assist in certain amendments to the Comprehensive Plan that will address the considerations and goals for battery energy storage and support an amendment to the Town Code; and Whereas, said task force shall undertake a thorough examination of these systems to identify any possible threats to public health, safety and welfare as well as evaluate the potential for environmental degradation; and Whereas, said task force shall be comprised of representatives of the residents and businesses of the Town of Southold, interested non-profit organizations, utilities, municipal officials and staff and the battery energy storage industry, now therefore be it Resolved, that the Town Board of Town of Southold hereby establishes the `Battery Energy Storage System Task Force" to undertake such analysis and to make recommendations to the Town Board regarding the legislation involving BESS facilities, and be it further RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Southold hereby authorizes and directs the Office of the Town Clerk to advertise for members to said Task Force.
