Dear Mr. & Mrs. Harmon:
This letter is a follow up to your letter received on September 5, 2025, along with
several photographs. The Board of Trustees reviewed your request to remove the
austere on your property within 100' of the wetlands. These trees were reviewed and
seen by Trustee Elizabeth Peeples on October 8, 2025.
The Board of Trustees determined that the austree may be removed at this time. No
permit will be required in order to perform this work.
Any other activity within 100' of the wetland boundary requires a permit from this office.
This is not a determination from any other agency.

Dear Members of the Board:
My wife;Jeanne Harmon,and I have owned the property at 1175 Cedar Point Drive East for
almost 30 years.
Jonathan Shipman (631)456-9122, a board certified Master Arborist, has inspected the
property.
We ask the trustees for permission to take down an austree next to our house in order to
reduce the risk of damage to our home and to insure the safety of our family,including grandchildren,
as well as visitors, who occupy and use the property. Our property is exposed to nor'easters which
blow directly towards the house and the austree. Some austree tree limbs overhang the deck and the
house itself.
An austree is a very fast growing hybrid willow tree whose botanical name is salix X
matsudana X albaan. This tree is about 20-25 years old,is nearing the end of its life span,has weak
wood and an extensive and invasive root system moving towards the foundation of our house. The
tree has grown 15-20 feet this year and is now about 80 feet tall.
Photos of the austree are included in this letter.
