The Board of Trustees reviewed your request to remove one (1) maple tree on your property within 100' of the wetlands. The tree was reviewed and seen by Trustee Elizabeth Peeples on August 22, 2025. The Board of Trustees determined that the maple tree may be removed at this time. The Board of Trustees would like you to consider planting one native hardwood tree anywhere on your property to help mitigate the loss of the trees. No permit will be required in order to perform this work. Any other activity within 100' of the wetland boundary requires a permit from this office. This is not a determination from any other agency. My name is John Taggart and I am the owner of a home at 700 Goose Creek Lane. I have a Maple tree which has been slowly but consistently dying over the past few years. There is evidence of infestation holes in the tree and recently, I noticed a 2 foot long vertical crack in the trunk of the tree. Unfortunately, I think it is finally time to remove the tree as it is leaning towards the house and is approximately 20 feet from the back of the house. I request approval to have the tree removed before the storm season comes by. FYI, I did reach out to a tree guy(Ryan Dooley) a few years ago to see if there was anything that I could do to save the tree. Unfortunately he did not have any answers on that front. That is consistent with my experience on loosing maple trees at my property in western Suffolk. FYI, there will also likely be coming some requests to remove several invasive Ailanthus trees by two of my neighbors on either side of me. I have discussed my concerns about those trees with my neighbors and they both agree the trees should come down.
