The Board of Trustees reviewed your request to remove five (5) trees on your property within 100' of the wetlands. These trees were reviewed and seen by Trustee Elizabeth Peeples on August 22, 2025. The Board of Trustees determined that the five (5) trees may be removed at this time. The Board.of Trustees would like, you to consider planting two (2) native hardwood trees anywhere on your property to help mitigate the loss of these trees. No permit will be required in order to perform this work. Any other activity within 100' of the wetland boundary requires a permit from this office. This is not a determination from any other agency. If you have any questions, please call our office at (631) 765-1892. My father, Howard Eilenberg(copied here) is the owner of the home at 800 Goose Creek Lane in Southold, and he has asked me to assist him in coordinating this effort. The property.has several invasive Ailanthus trees which have reached a towering height and are at the risk of falling and damaging not only the Eilenberg property at 800 Goose Creek Lane, but also the adjoining properties of our two neighbors,John Taggart (to the immediate east of us) and Joe Orlando (to our immediate west). These Ailanthus trees are notoriously shallow rooted and often come down, especially, when they reach the height they are now. Both the Taggarts and Orlandos, copied here, have asked us to arrange for these trees to be taken down. FYI, unfortunately we have had experience with these trees coming down on the property; several years ago, one large tree came down on the Taggart property and destroyed their canoe. We hope to avoid having that problem again. Also, 1 when surveying our property,we noticed that a locust tree between two of the Ailanthus trees is dying and leaning toward our house. I am also requesting removal of that locust tree. Finally, there are two mid-sized Ailanthus trees very close to the Taggart property retaining wall,we are requesting to take those down before the root structure impairs the stability of the Taggart retaining wall. FYI, I understand that Mr.Taggart has made a request to remove a dying tree on his property. Attached are photos of the trees in question on the 800 Goose Creek Lane property. We understand that Elizabeth Peoples is still responsible for the approval requests in the Goose Creek Lane area. Mr.Taggart has informed me that he would be happy to meet with her and discuss these requests at her convenience.
