at the call of the Chairman at 11: 30 A.M. , Tuesday,. September
17, 1963 at the Town Office, Main Road, Southold, New York.
'Inhere were present: Messrs.. Robert W. Gillispie, Jr. ,
- Chairman, Robert' Bergen, and Charles Grigonis, Jr.
Absent: " Messrs. Serge- Doyen, Jr. , , and Fred Hulse, Jr.
On motion of Mr. Giilispie, seconded by Mr. Bergen, it was
RESOLVED that the Board of Appeals set 7:30 P.M. , Thursday,
. September 26, 1963, Town Office,, Main Road, Southold, New York,

Southold Town Board of Appeals -2- September 17, 1963
Suffolk Avenue and Main Road, Mattituck, New York, property bounded
north by New Suffolk--Avenue, east by E. & H. Reeve, south by .
Boutcher Estate, and west by Main Road.
Vote of the Board: Ayes: - Mr. Gillispie, Mr. Bergen, and Mr.
Grigonis.
It was further RESOLVED that legal notice of the hearing be
published in the official newspaper on Friday, September 20, 1963.
Vote of the Board:. Ayes: - Mr. Gillispie, Mr. Bergen, and Mr. '
Grigonis.
The Chairman directed that a letter be sent to Mr. Alf.Andersen, '
c/o The Great.Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. stating that the Board is
unwilling to consider two additional advertising signs such as they
have already erected on the property. The two signs are without
directional information and are presently in violation of the pro-
visions in the Ordinance which control the number of standard advertis-
ing signs permitted to a business enterprise, as well as being too
close to the property lines. The Board is sure they want to comply
with the local Zoning Ordinance and the Board of Appeals - is favorable
tothe erection of small 1 ft. by 2 ft. directional, only, parking
field signs indicating "Entrance" and "Exit. "
It was also stated that their request . for a reduction for the
setback on the lollipop sign is improperly included in Appeal No. 603
and would not be granted in any case. 'die Board is unwilling to grant
to that business a privilege which is denied to all others. Accord-
ingly -favorable action on directional parking field signs will not be
granted unless compliance is obtained in the matter of the relocating
the lollipop sign at least 5 feet from any property lines. The
location of 'the signs closer than 5 feet to the public highway con-
stitutes serious violation of both State rules and the Town of: Southold
Zoning Ordinance. In. addition such signs are a -serious traffic hazard.
On motion of Mr. Gillispie, seconded by Mr. Bergen, it was
RESOLVED that" the minutes of September 5, 1963 be approved as
submitted.
Vote of the Board: Ayes: - Mr. Gillispie; Mr. Bergen, and Mr.
Grigonis.
