MEETING OF JANUARY 81 1957.
The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp
at Greenport, on Tuesday, January 8, 1957. The Meeting was called .to
order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Council-
man Albertson; Justices Tuthill, Clark and Demarest; Superintendent of
Highways Price; Tovn Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
The Board sat at once asaa committee on Audit to examine claims
against the Town, concluding the audit work at 2 o 'clock P.M.
Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest:
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the previous meeting be and hereby
are duly approved as read.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Clark
and Demarest and Councilman Albertson.

RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board will be held
at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday,
January . 29, 1957, at 1:30 P.M.

RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amount of $8,300. 56, Lighting

RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Board approves the action of the Com-
missioners of. the Fishers Island Ferry District -on entering into a
contract with JOHNSON & WILLIAMS , Accountants and .Auditors for a period
beginning January 1, 1957 and ending December 31, 1957, for accounting
services in the amount of $45.00 per day while examining accounts in
the office of Johnson and Williams , and $50.00 per day while examining
accounts in the office of the Fishers Island Ferry District.

for mail- haulage between Railroad Depot and U. S . Post Office New
London, 'Connecticut , at a rate of $45.00 per month, for a period
beginning January 1, 1957 and ending December 31, 1957..

RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Board approves the action of the
Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District on entering
into a. contract with WALTER F. GRIFFIN, SR. , of Fishers Island
New York, for mail haulage between Fort Wright Dock and the Fishers
Island Post Office , Fishers Island, New York, in the amount of $94.70
per month, for a period beginning January 1, 1957, and ending
December 31, 1957.

WHEREAS , IT IS THE OPINION OF THE Department of Audit and .Control,
that the Superintendent of Highways should have Town Board approval
by Resolution of all purchases from the Machinery Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the _Superintendent of Highways
of the T own of Southold be and hereby is authorized to purchase any
piece of Machinery or any part thereof at a cost not to exceed One
Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) from January 1, 1957 to January 1, 1958.

WHEREAS, the Superintendent of Highways has recommended .the purchase
of 200.00 gallons of Asphalt Road Materials or as much thereof as
may be necessary for the Town Roads of the Town of Southold;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Superintendent of. Highways
of the Town of Southold be and hereby is authorized to advertise for
and purchase from the lowest responsible bidder 200.00 gallons of
Asphalt Road Materials or as much thereof as may be necessary, of
such type and quality as may be in the best interest of the Town of
Southold.

of the Town of Southold be and hereby is authorized to advertise
for and purchase from the lowest bidder one New four Yd. dump truck
complete with new body and hoist.

ized to act as Public Welfare Officer at the pleasure of the Town
Board and be it further
RESOLVED: That Norman E. Klipp serve in such capacity without compen-
sation, end be it further

with the proper parties as is required by Section 30, Subdivision 3 ,
of the Town Law.

RESOLVED: That Wayland Jefferson be compensated while acting in such
capacity in the amount of Five Hundred Dollars )$500.00) per year,
payable in regular monthly payments , and be it further

RESOLVED: That the expenses incurred per year by the Town Historian
in the performance of his duties be paid by the Town in an amount not
to exceed One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($1 50.00) per year, and be it

Inspector for the Town of Southold until January 1, 1958, and be it

RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry be compensated for such services in
the amount of Twenty-eight Hundred Dollars ($2,800.00) per year , pay-
able in regular monthly payments , and be it further
RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry, Building Inspector, be further com-
pensated for mileage necessarily incurred to carry out the duties
of his office at the rate of Eight Cents ($.08) per mile , and be it

RESOLVED: That this appointment take effect as of January 1, 1957,

perform such services in connection with assessment and taxation
of property for state , county and town purposes , as the Town Board
shall direct , now, therefore , be it
RESOLVED: That Raymond W. Terry, be and hereby is designated to hold
the office of Chairman of the Town bfflxdx Board of assessors until
the first day of January next succeeding such designation all in
accordamce with 22b of the Town Law, and be it further
RESOLVED: That compensation for such appointment be fixed at Sl,1500.00
per year, payable in regular monthly payments .

WHEREAS, Section 64 of the Town Law requires the Town Board to desig-
nate by resolution banks of this State in which the Supervisor or any
other officer of the Town shall deposit all monies coming into their
hands by virtue of their offices , and
WHEREAS , The Town Board may require any Bank so designated tocbposit
with such Board the Bonds or Certificates of the United States of .
the State of New York or ^ny County, Town, City, Village. or School
District of the State of New York as security for such funds so
deposited but such bonds or certificates shall be subject to the
approval of the Town Board and shall be deposited in such place and
held under such conditions as the . Town Board may determine , now there-
fore be it

WHEREAS , Section 62 of the Town Law requires that every Town Board
shall meet on or after the 28th day of December , but not later than
the 31st dpy of December , in each year, and
WHEREAS , There is no other time specified by law when meetings of 'the
Town Board of a Second Class Town should be held , now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and hereby is empowered to call all
meetings of the Town Board as may be required for the best interest
of the .Town, and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Supervisor designate Tuesday as the day of the week
for calling such meetings , and be it further
RESOLVED: That each member of the Town Board be given at least 2 days
notice in advance of such meeting , notice to contain the time and place.
where such meeting is to be held.

RESOLVED: That the Assessors of the Town of Southold who use their
own automobiles in the performance of their duties for the Town will
be compensated -for the use of such automobiles in an amount not to
exceed Eight Cents 3.08) per mile.

RESOLVED: That the Suffolk Times, Greenport, New Y,rk, and the Long
Island Traveler-Mattituck Watchman , Southold, New York, -, be and here-
by are designated as the official newspaper to publish the notice of
the RLceiver of Taxes that he is in receipt of such tax and assess-
ment roll and warrants , and that the taxes and assessments therein
may be paid ' to the Receiver at the times and with penalty other than
his principal office in accordance with Section 22 of the Suffolk
County Tax Act.

Within sixty (60) days after the close of the fiscal year. the Treasurer
of each Fire District shall- file in the office of the Town Clerk and
the State Comptroller a financial statement -setting forth in detail
the receipts and expenditures of the Fire District for the previous
fiscal year. (Section 181 of ,the Town Law) .
On or before the 1 5th day of January in each year the Commissioners
of each Improvement District shall file with the Town Clerk a finan-
cial report for the preceding year. (S ,ction 215, Subdivision 9, of
the Town Law) .
The Town Clerk should advise the Town Board as to existing contracts ,
for lighting, garbage collection, fire protection, water supply, and
also leases of any property rented by the Town, and specify the date
of expiration of such contracts . (Section 64, Subdivision 2 and 19,
Section 183 , 184 and 198, Subdivision 6,7 ,8 and 9 of the Town. Law) .
The Town Clerk should supply to the Executive Secretary of the Assoc-
iation of Towns at the Hotel Ten Eyck, Albany, New York, a correct
list of the names and addresses of all Town Officers and the Super-
visor should advise the members that he , the Town Clerk, Justices
of the Peace, Superintendent of Highways , Assessors , Welfare Officer,
and the Town Attorney will receive copies of meetings , bulletins ,
issued by the Town and County Officers Training School on subjects
of interest and importance to various officers .

RESOLVED: That the schedule of wages of the employees of the- Highway
Department, presented to the Town Board by the .Superintendent of High-
way of the Town of Southold be and hereby are approved by the Board
and filed with the Town Clerk.
Vote of Town Board: .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp, Councilman Albertson;
Justices Tuthill, Clark and Demarest.
