SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD MINUTES`
Meeting of August 16, 1973 -
The Annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was
held at 1 :00 P.M. , Thursday, August 16, 1973 at .the Fishers Island
School, Fishers Island, New York, with the following present:
Supervisor Albert M. Martocchia
Justice Martin Suter
Justice Louis M. Demarest
Justice Francis T. Doyen
Councilman James Homan
Highway Superintendent Raymond C. Dean
Town Clerk Albert W. Richmond
Absent: Councilman James H. Rich, Jr.
Town Attorney Robert W. Tasker
Supervisor Martocchia introduced' the visiting State, County and
Town officials and other guests attending the meeting from Long
Island. In all, about 76 persons were aboard the boat - "Stirling. "
Moved by Justice Suter, seconded by Councilman Homan, it was
RESOLVED that the minutes of April 7 , 1973 be and they hereby
are approved.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman
Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest, Justice Doyen..
Moved by Councilman Homan, seconded by Justice Doyen, it was
RESOLVED that the next meeting of the Southo.ld Town Board will be
held at 3 :00 P.M. , Tuesday, August 28, 1973 at the office of
Supervisor Albert M. Martocchia, 16 South Street, Greenport, New
York.-
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Supervisor Martocchia, -Councilman
Homan, Justice Suter, Justice: Demarest, -: Justice - Doyen.
Supervisor Martocchia opened the meeting for discussion of any
problems the Fishers Island: residents might have.
Mrs. Rafferty, President .of the Fishers Island Civic Association,
Inc. asked what is the total amount of taxes collected by the Town of
Southold from Fishers Island. Supervisor Martocchia stated it is
about 9. 9%.
Some of the other subjects discussed. were :
Dredging and placing of fill from the Thames River.
Subsidies from County and State for the Fishers Island
Ferry District.
Another tennis court.
Amount of taxemoney collected for road improvements.
Requested additional lgghts on Equestrian Avenue.
Southold Town boat requested for patroling Fishers
Island waters .
Former Constable A. John Gada from Fishers Island was presented
with a plaque from the Town of Southold in appreciation of his
service to the Town.
Former Town Justice E. Perry Edwards, Fishers Island, was presented
with a plaque from the Town of Southold in appreciation of his service
to the Town.
Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, former Sub-Registrar and Deputy Town Clerk,
Fishers Island, was presented with an engraved pin in appreciation
of her services to the Town of Southold.
On motion of Councilman Homan, seconded by Justice Suter, it. was
RESOLVED that a recess be called at 2 :30 P.M. to reconvene at
5 :00 P.M.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman
Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest, Justice Doyen.
Meeting reconvened at 5: 00 P.M.
Supervisor Martocchia advised the Board that he appointed Chief. ;.
Anthony Blados, Assistant Chief-Matthew Martin, and Second- Assistant
Chief Vincent Wieczorek .of the Cutchogue Fire Department to act as
Fire Wardens for Robins Island, said appointments being made pursuant
to Section 29, Subdivision 12 of the Town Law, and Section 52 , Sub-
division 3 of the Conservation Law.
On motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Councilman Homan, it was
RESOLVED that -the following monies be transferred as follows :
$8, 205.00 from General Fund .- Surplus
to: Codification - $1, 505. 00
Harbor Crafts - $500. 00
Town Justices-A1110.4 - $1, 000
Independent Auditing-A1320.4 $200. 00 . .. .
Garbage and Refuse-A8160.4 - $5, 000. 00
$1,400. 00 from General Fund-Town outside Village
to: P.B.A . Life Insurance
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Supervisor Martocchia,. Councilman
Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest.
On motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Councilman- Homan; it was
RESOLVED that notification be sent to the Southold Town .-Planning
Board advising that Edward Gillis wishes to amend his change of
zone application from "A" Residential and Agricultural to "B-l"
General Business zone, rather than "C" Industrial as asked . for .
on the original application, and instructing the Planning Board to
prepare an official report defining the conditions described. in the
petition and determine the area so affected with the recommendation
of the Planning Board.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Supervisor Martocchia,. Councilman
Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest.
A letter was received .from A. -W. .Albertson- Jr.. withdrawing his .
application for a change of zone from "A" Residential and .
Agricultural District to "C" Light Industrial District on certain
property at Arshamomaque, New York.
Meeting adjourned at 5 :45 P.M. -
