Dear Mr. Martocchia, and members of the Town Board,
The North"Fork Environmental Council, , Inc. with more than 300
members 'wouid like to go on record officially as urging -you, ' in
the strongest possible language; to purchase the land at Orient
Point as a. Town Park.
We sincerely hope that you will receive recommendations of this
sort from other organizations and that you first step in this
wotthwhile project will -be to call . for a public hearing on the
matter, which, we hope, will lead to a referendum and whatever other
action is necessary. '
If there is one clear solution to the Orient -Point -4uestion it is
Town acquisition. Not only will the vast majority. of local people
support such a move, but we are "convinced the entire Town will support
it. Orient, Point is a very special piece , of geography and.-must be
preserved for the public good.. And there is no more • ideal place
