HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-05/08/1956 317 MEETING OF MAY 89 1956. The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport , on Tuesday, May 8, 1956. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest; Councilman Albertson- b°uperintendent of Highways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Cierk Booth. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That the minutes of the previous meeting be and hereby are . duly approved as read. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest anU Councilman Albertson. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board will be held at the office of Supervisor Norman .E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, May 29, 1956, at 1:30 P.M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman -Albertson. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That a public hearing will be held at the 'Zillag@oHall in Greenport , on Wednesday, May 23, 1956, at 7:30 P.M. for the purpose of considering a proposed contract with the Village of Greenport, for the furnishing of fire protection to the Wast- West Fire Protection District, for a period of four and one-half years form July 1, 1956. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. Moved by Councilman .Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry of Southold, New YOrk, be and hereby is appointed Building Inspector for the Town of Southold form Mayl, 19569 to January 1, 1957,. as required under Section 303 of the Multiple Resident Law., and be it further RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry be compensated for such services at the- rate of $1,320.00 per year , payable in regular_ monthly pay- ments , and be it further RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be instructed to file such certificate with the proper parties as is required by Section 30 Subdivision 3 of the Town Law. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp be and he hereby is instructed to make application to the New Y rk State Youth Commission at .Albany, New YOrk, for a recreational project for the Town of Southold from July 1, 1956, to June 30, 1957. Vote of Town Board: Ayse-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman'Albertson. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Board approves the action of the Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District on entering into lease License Contract No. DA-19-016-ENG-4369 with the Depart- ment of Army for a portion of a certain pgrcbl of land together with portions of the Government owned dock and warehouse and all the other appurtenances thereto, located at #he foot of John Street, New London, Conn. , as shown outlined � in blue on Exhibit A Plan entitled Government owned dock, New London, for a period of one year. commencin.g on October 1, 1955, Fnd ending September 30, 19569 in the amount of $2200.00 per annum payable quarterly in advance quarterly to the Treasurer of the United States. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. A letter was. received from W. Harry Lister requesting some finan- cial assistance from the Town Board to dredge Wickham' s Creek to allow access to Boatman's Harbor. 318 Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp be authorized to contrib- half of the total expenditure up to but not to exceed the sum of $475.00 in dredging Wicghams Creek, at Cutchogue , Town of Southold, N.Y. so as to allow access to Boatmans Harbor. Vote of Town Board: .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Damarest and Councilman Albertson. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That Otto L. Anrig, Chief of Police, Town of Southold, be and he hereby is authorized to attend the New York State Youth Commission fourth annual training program for law enforcement officers to be held at St. Lawrence University, Canton, New YOrk, July 29 through August 3 , 1956, and be it further RESOLVED: That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp be authorized to issue a check in the amount of $65.00 in advance to cover tuition, meals and room, and be it further RESOLVED: That the necessary expenses incurred while attending said conference is a legal charge against the Town. VOTE of the Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amount of $39176.30, Lighting District Bills in the amount of $1,481.93 , Fishers Island Ferry District Bills in the amount of $8,765.01, be and the same are hereby ordered paid. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That, the Police Report for the month of April be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Vote of Town Board: .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Clark and Demarest and Councilman Albertson. An application was received by the Town Board fora permit to estab- lish a labor camp in the vicinity of Southold by I . M. .Young & Co. After considerable discussion it was found that the proposed build- ing was not in the scope of the House Trailer Camp Ordinance. The Supervisor was instructed to notify I . M. Young & Co. to that effect. Otto VanTuyl and Edward Nidds appeared before the Bond presenting ' a map of the proposed hi�hvgy through Mr. Nidd ' s property at Bay View, Town of Southold, N.Y. The Board decided it should have approval by the Planning Board of the layout before viewing the highway. Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That Supe.ryisor Norman E. Klipp be authorized to advertise for sealed proposals to furnish the Town of Southold one new 2-door sedan, eight cylinder standard model automobile, according to specifications , for use as p1liae car , said proposals will be opened at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport , at 2 o 'clock P.M.. on May 299 1956. Will you please bring this Resolution to the atten tion of your Town Board. "It is the concensus of opinion of this meeting that it is against the public interest to have a separate collection of taxes in the Town of Southold and that the Southold Town Board be notified that we do not wish to change the present method of collection. Ralph P. Booth Town Clerk A public hearing wqs held by the Town Board at Village Hall at Greenport, on Wednesday, May 23 , 1956. The meeting was duly opened at 7:30 P.M. in accordance with the legal notice published in the Town newspapers , with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Clark and Demarest, Councilman Albertson, Tom Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The purpose of this meeting was to consider a proposed contract with the Village of Greenport for the furnishing of fire protection to be furnished by said Village to the East-West Greenport Fire Protection District. The Supervisor read the call of the meeting and called upon any person present who wished to speak either for or. against the pro- posed contract. Stanley Corwin spoke in favor of the Fire Hydrant Contract. He was not in accord with the Fire Protection Contract. He stated the con- tract was unfair and the rate of $2.60 was too high and something should be ,done: to have it reduced. Robert White stated he was in favor of the contracts . The Town Board statlad they would take the matter under consideration and decided to hold a meeting with the Greenport Village Board and see if the contract could be revised and the term of the contract reduced.
