Town Attorney Tasker stated that .he had two tlelphone converstaions with the New York State Department -of Transportation, within a two huur period relative to the snow and ice removal contract. The D.O.T. seems to believe on the question of the length of term .of the contract that possibly they could go with. a one .year contract. All of the things he explains as to what the D.O.T., can possibly do is uubject to the approval of what .they told Mr. Tasker by their legal department. The D:.O.T. will require, if we go into contract with .them, that the Superintendent of Highways of the Town be directly responsible for all the. work. There will not be independent contracts to ,subcontractors, they will in effect be working for the Town of Southold, and. all they will be doing - is leasing their equipment and providing an operator.
