HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-08/23/1955-FI MEETING OF AUGUST 239 1955. The Annual Fishers Island meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Tuesday, August 23 , 1955. The meeting was balled to order at 2:00 o'clock P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Clark, Demarest and Edwards; Superintendent of Highways Price; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth; also officials of the State, County and Town and a delegation of Fishers Island residents. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Clark, Demarest and Edwards. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Jus,the Clark: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board will be held at the office of Supervisor Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, September 6, 1955, at 1:30 P.'M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justiees Tuthill, Albertson, Clark, Demesest and Edwards. Supervisor Klipp inquired if there were any problems the Fishers Island people would like to discuss. The Question was asked what could be done to stop fishermen from Connecticut taking lobsters from New York State waters? Assemblyman Edmund Lupton suggested that a local conservation officer be appointed to patrol the waters. He also stated that the Civic .Association take the matter up with the Conservation Department at Albany. Supervisor Klipp stated that he would take the matter up with Alfred Tucker, Superintendent of the Marine District. The rat situation on Fishers Island was discussed as to how to get rid of them. A number of the Civic Association explained one way to rid the Island of rats was by placing feeding stations with poison food in several sections of the Island. He also stated that the Civic Association r;is doing its part in combating the situation. The question was brought up what was to be done about the mosquitos on Fishers Island. Mr. C. T. Williamson of the .Suffolk County Mosqmito extermination Commission stated they were doing everything possible to exterminate them. Lee Ferguson stated that in case of an emergency, some means should be provided whereby persons needing hospitalization could be quickly transported to New London, Conn. Supervisor Klipp stated that he would take the matter up with the U. S. . Coast Glaard and try to work out a solution to the problem. Adjournment was at 3 P.M. Ralph P. Booth Town Clerk
