MEETING OF MAY 109 1955.
The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman
E. Klipp at Greenport, . on Tuesday, May 10, 1955. The meeting
was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present:
Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill Albertson, Calrk and Demar-
est; Town Attorney Terry and Town perk Booth.
The Board sat at once as a committee on Audit to exgmine -claims
against the Town concluding. the Audit work at 2 o'clock. P.M.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of April 22 and
April 25 be and hereby are duly approved as read.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill,
Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
Moved by Justice Demarest; seconded by Justice Albertson:
RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board will
be held at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Green-
port, on Tuesday, May 24, 1955, at 1:30 P.M.

Albertson, Clark and Demarest.

RESOLVED: That a public hearing on the application of Charles
0., and Florence A. Ziegler for a permit to operate a trailer
camp in East Marion, Town of Southold, will be held at the
office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp, at Greenpat, on Tuesday,
May 24, 1955, at 2 o'clock P.M.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill,
.Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
Fred Marcell appeared before the Town Board relative to the
increasing Juvenile Delinquency in Suffolk County. He requested
the. Board to consider forming a Police Athletic League in
Southold Town. Such arrangement would meet with the approval
of the Town Board-. The Board suggested that Mr. Marcell check
with the schools of the Town and ascertain if the School
'Board would consent to holding such activities in the school
buildings.
A letter was received from Stanley Corwin, Esq. protesting the
Awarding of the contract to Jack Levin for the operation of the
concession .stand at the Southold Town Beach. After discussing
the letter the Board directed that it be placed on file.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertsb�n:
RESOLVED: That Norman E. Klipp, Supervisor, be and he hereby
is authorized to make application totthe New York -Statb Youth
Commission, Albany, New York, for the approval of a recreation
project for the Town of Southold for the period from July 1,
1955 to June 30, 1956.

Albertson, Clark and Demarest.

. RESOLVED: That Otto L. Anrig, Chief of Police, Town of Southold,
be and he hereby is authorized to attend the New York State
Youth Commission third annual training program for enforce-
ment officers , to be held at St. Lawrence University, Canton,
New York, on August 1 5th through August 19th, 1955, and be
it further
RESOLVED: That the necessary expenses incurred while attending
said conference is a legal charge against the Town.

RESOLVEDfThat. Otto L. Anrig, .Chief of Police, Town of Southold,
be and he hereby is authorized to attend the New York State
Chief of Police Convention to be held 'at Buffalo, New )tork,
during the 'week of July 25, 1955, and be it further
RESOLVED: that the necesaryt•expenses incurred while attending
said convention is a legal charge against the Town.

RESOLVED: That the Police Report for the month of April be
accepted by the T-own Board and placed on file.

RESOLVED: That Genersl Bills in the amount of $5,491.23,
Lighting District Bills in the amount of $1,427.4 5, Town Trustee
Bills in the amount of $90.00, Fishers Island Ferry District
Bills_ in the amount of $7,363.71 be and the same are hereby
ordered paid.

WHEREAS, East Cutchogue School District No.81iresig'ne`d'such
position on April 11, 1955, therefore be it
RESOLVED: That on the recommendation df Harold Price and Elsworth
W.- Bedell, Republican Committeemen, District No. 10, Town of
Southold Robert F. Tuthill of Cutchogue be and he hereby is
appointed Special Constable to direct traffic at the East
Cutchogue School crossing at a salary of $5. 50 per day for
each school day worked, effective as of May 16, 1955, he to
serve at the pleasure of the Town Board.

Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice ,Clark:
WHEREAS, it is the considered opinion of the Town Board of
the Town of Southold that in order to alletiate the hazardous
conditions on Youngs Avenue, Southold, in the vicinity south
of Middle Country Road, additional land be acquired, for drain-
age purposes, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board has negotiated with Kenneth L. Tuthill
for the purchase of a parcel of' real property on the easterly
side of Youngs Avenue adjacent to land of Wilson for the sum
of $750.009
.NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Supervisor of the Town
of Southold be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transfer the sum of $750.00 from the contingent fund to the ..
general fund and to proceed with the purchase of said real
property, to execute the necessary documents therefor, and to
pay over the purchase price of $750.00 out of the general fund
upon receipt of the deed.

Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Demarest:
WHEREAS, it is the considered opinion of the Town Board
of the Town of Southold, Suffolk bounty, New York, that the
trend of population, growth and business developement definite-
ly points to the need for more conveniently available higher
education facilities for the young people of the County of
Suffolk, and
WHEREAS, both the Senate and Assembly at the recent session
of the State Legislature, by concurrent resolution, directed
the Board of Regents and State University Trustees to make
immediate plans for the establishment of a state teachers
college on Long Island,

NOW,' THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that..the Town Board of the ' '
Town of Southold recommend and it hereby does recommend the
prompt- establishment of a teachers college on Long Island, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that Supervisor Norman E. Klipp be
and he hereby is direct4d to convey to the appropriate bodies
the recommendations of this Board favoring the prompt establish-
ment of a teachers college on Long Island.
