A special meeting of the Southold Town Board was held at the
office of Supervisor Noeman E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tues-
day March 15, 1955. The meeting was called to order at 7
o'ciock P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp;
Justices Tuthill, Albertson and Demarest; Town Attorney
Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
The pur*ose of this meeting was to appoint -members on the
Zoning Commission. . The following resolution was offered by
Justice Albertson and seconded, by Justice Tuthill: .
WHEREAS, for the purpose of promoting the health, safety,
morals and general welfare of the Community, the Town Board
is empowered by Law to enact an ordinance regulating and
restricting the height, number of stories and size of build-
ings and other structures, the percentage of lot that may
be :occupied- the size of yards, density of population,.
location and use of _buildings, structures and land for trade,
industry, residence or other purposes; and
WHEREAS, in the considered 'opinion of the members of the
Town Board of the Town of Southold the enactment of ail
effective zoning ordinance is highly desirable and in the
best interest of the Town of Southold, and
WHEREAS, in order to avail itself of the Zoning powers
conferred upon it by -law, it is required that the Town .
Board apoint a commission to be known.as a zoning commission
to recommend the boundaries of Carious districts and approp-
riate regulations therefore,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that the following named
persons be and they are appointed to a Commission to be .
known as the ZONING COMMISSION, and . they are -hereby directed
r to recommend the boundaries of the various original dis-
tricts and the appropriate regulations therefor in accord-
ance with -the provisions of .Section 266 of the Town Law,
and to engage. such assistance and incur .such expenditures
as the Town Board may from time to time authorize:
1: John Wickham, Cutchogue, N.Y.
2 Harold R. Reeve, Sr. ,. Mattituck, N.Y.
3. Robert W. Gillispie, Orient, N.Y.
4, Otto W. VanTuyl, Greenport, N.Y.
5: Charles F. VanDuzer, Southold, N.Y.
6.Serge J. Doyen7 Jr. , Fishers Island, N.Y.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill,
Albertson, and Demarest.
The Supervisor declared the resolution duly adopted.
Adjournment was at 8:30 P.M.
