HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-06/06/1980-S 13 0 SOUTHOLD' TOWN BOARD June 6, 1980 A special meeting of the Southold Town Board was held on Friday, June 6 , 1980 at the Southold Town Hall , Main Road,' Southold, New York. Supervisor Pell called the meeting to order at 8 : 00 A.M. with the following present : Supervisor William R. Pell III Councilman Henry W. Drum Councilman John J. Nickles Councilman Lawrence Murdock, Jr . Councilman George R. Sullivan Town Clerk Judith T. Terry Deputy Supervisor Marie Bauer Johnson Absent : Justice Francis T. Doyens On motion of Councilman Drum, seconded by Councilman Murdock, it was RESOLVED that the Firelsland Fisheries , Inc . , Bay Shore, New York, the only bidder, be and hereby is awarded the bid for furnishing the Town of Southold with 500 bushels of uncertified chowder clams for spawning purposes at a cost of $8 . 00 per bushel, to be picked up by the Town and delivered to the Town Highway Department , Peconic Lane, Peconic, New York; 250 bushels during the week of June 9, 1980 and 250 bushels during the week of June 16, 1980. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Councilman Sullivan, Councilman Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell . This resolution was declared duly adopted. Supervisor Pell reminded the Board there will be a public hearing on the proposed Suffolk County Charter on June 9, 1980 at 3 P .M. through 9 P.M. in the Legislative Auditorium, County Center, Riverhead, New York. Councilman Murdock indicated he would attend. On motion of Supervisor Pell , seconded by Councilman Nickles, it was RESOLVED that Babette Conroy be hired as stenographer for Grievance Day proceedings on July 15, 1980 at a salary of $7 . 00 per hour. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes : Councilman Sullivan, Councilman Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell . This resolution was declared duly adopted. The Board discussed the possible hiring of a negotiator for PBA and CSEA contracts. Supervisor Pell designated Councilman Nickles and Councilman Drum to handle PBA negotiations and Councilman Murdock and Councilman Sullivan to handle CSEA negotiations . The Board discussed the Senior Citizen/Youth Center operating expenses and completion of the kitchen . Supervisor Pell spoke about the possibility of cooking meals at the Center for the Nutrition Program and Meals on Wheels and transporting them to Greenport . Mrs Silkworth. of the Office of the Aging will go to.'.:_.._ Albany to determine if a transfer of certain funds form the Nutrition Program can be used for equipment for the Center Kitchen. The Board was unsure of the feasibility of cooking meals at the Center but authorized Mrs . Silkworth to determine if the funds can be transfered. Supervisor Pell advised the Board he had a telephone call from County Legislator Gregory Blass last night inquiring as to the feelings of the Town Board concerning the elimination of $2, 000, 000 from the Suffolk County Capital Budget which is earmarked for Robins Island. Councilman Murdock said he does not feel $2, 000, 000 is sufficient for the purchase of Robins Island, but does not wish it removed. Councilman Sullivan and Nickles stated they feel it should be removed. Supervisor Pell did not express his opinion . On motion of Councilman Nickles, seconded by Councilman Drum, it was RESOLVED that the Supervisor be and he hereby is authorized and directed to enter into a lease with the Pudge Corporation., Main Road, JUNE 6, 1980 Southold, New York for the lease of a parcel of land on the north side of the Main Road, Southold, east of Mei Lin Restaurant for use as a municipal parking field. Said agreement to take effect June 1, 1980 through May 31, 1981 and be automatically extended for successive one year terms at an annual rental of $1. 00 per year. Vote of the Town Board : Ayes : Councilman Sullivan, Councilman Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Councilman Drum, Supervisor Pell . This resolution was declared duly adopted. Councilman Nickles brought to the Board' s attention construction work being done at the intersection of Route 25 and Youngs Avenue, Southold which will result in the erection of steel poles with mast arms for traffic signals . He pointed out this is also being done in Greenport on Main and Front Street and Cutchogue at the intersection of Route 25 and New Suffolk Lane . Councilman NIckles pointed out a photograph appearing in the "Suffolk Life':' of similar construction in Riverhead and said the residents of Riverhead are . extremely unhappy with the ugly poles and wires . ---Supervisor Pell said he had a representative of the Department of Transportation °n.
