HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-10/14/1982-S 291 SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD SPECIAL MEETING OCTOBER 14, 1982 A Special Meeting of the Southold Town Board was held at 5: 45 P.M. , Thursday, October 14, 1982 at the ,Southold Town Hall , Main Road, .Southol,d, New York. , The Board members signed a waiver of notice 'of Town Board meeting. Present : Supervisor William R. Pell , III Councilman John J. Nickles Councilman Lawrence Murdock, Jr. Councilman Francis J. Murphy Councilman Joseph L. Townsend, Jr. . Justice Raymond W. Edwards Town Clerk Judith T. Terry Town Attorney Robert W. Tasker Councilman Nickles advised the Board that due to his concern . relative to the possible presence of formaldehyde vapors in the Senior/Youth Center, he has been in contact with the U. S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and it is his recommendation that the Center be closed immediately until the New York ,Testing Laboratories can conduct a chromo-tropic acid test for formaldehyde' gas. As a result of a. letter from the Southold Town . Youth , Proj'eIc_t- c ,, Inc. complaining of various ill effects from persons using the �,C`enter, a test was conducted on October 6th by the., Suffolk' County Depart- ment of Health Services. However, their ins.t;rument is only c-apable of measuring concentrations greater than .' 5 'parts per .mi.11,ionr. If a more accurate test is necessary, a private laboratory would have to be contacted to conduct such testing. Councilman said that for the safety and welfare of thoseresidents using .t.he Center, he strongly recommends that the Center be closed immediately and tests be conducted. Moved by Councilman Nickles, seconded by Councilman Murdock, it was RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold immediately close the Senior/Youth Center, Peconic, New York, until such time as it is determined fit for public occupancy. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Justice Edwards, Councilman Townsend, Councilman Murphy, Councilman Murdock, Councilman Nickles , Supervisor Pell. This resolution was declared duly ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Nickles, seconded by Justice Edwards, it was RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold retain the New York Testing Laboratoriesto conduct a chromo-tropic acid test for formaldehyde gas at the Senior/Youth Center, Peconic, New York, at a cost not to exceed $700. 00. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Justice Edwards, Councilman Townsend, Councilman Murphy, Councilman Murdock, Councilman Nickles, Supervisor Pell. This resolution was declared duly ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Murdock, seconded by Supervisor Pell , it was RESOLVED that there being no further business to come before this Special Town Board meeting adjournment be called at 6 :00 P.M.
