Edwards r Supervisor Pell explained that he called this meeting,- to discuss the appointment of Susan Long as a Clerk-Typist :,for for . the Town. of Southold. She is presently number three on the.. Civi1 Service .list, and the list expires today. . When the new list:-comes, out Mrs. Long . will be number six. There is a Clerk-Typist position open in the Supervisor' s Office, vacated by Joan R.ichter .when- she moved to the position of Account Clerk. In doing this, the Clerk-Stenographer position in the Planning Board office will remain vacant and when Mrs . Long passes the Clerk-Stenographer test . she. can be upgraded to that position. Mr. ' Raynor. agreed that the position should be a Clerk-Stenographer since there are certain. hearings held by the Planning Board when a stenographer is recuired. Mrs. Long was hired as a Clerk-Stenographer and he strongly feels a• Clerk-Steno- grapher is needed in the Planning'Board office.. If the Planning Board had a hearing. where a Clerk-Stenographer-must legally act, the Town would have to go out and. hire a. second person, . a stenographer, to do the job. The Town should not .take care of the person,. they should take care of the job. Councilman Murdock emphasized. that he was' not in- favor of the move, but did not feel there was a better way to handle the subject, ` at this'..time. There are- only two Clerk- Stenographers presently-employed -by the Town, Linda Kowalski and Betty Neville. He would like to be .assured that Mrs-. Long will take j and pass the Clerk-Stenographer..test the' next time. it is.. given so she can be assigned to the position in the Planning:.Board as a Stenograph Mr. Raynor advised the Board that Mrs. Long will be. taking_ the- test in April and is presently enrolled in , i stenographic. class. in school.
